Is this gauge an optional extra, or was it just not fitted before 1992. Where is it on the dash?

It’s on the dash "pod" in mine, I have the triple one with altimeter, inclinometer and internal/external temperature gauges from left to right...Will take a photo in the morning. Not sure if it’s an option or just typical of some specs/years.

Ian if you want one of the internal thermistors just shout, I've got four spares. Installed mine yesterday, works great. Now the inside is no longer permanently -26°C!  :D

Not sure Marmota but if you can find out the specs you need I can let you know if it's the same.

I know this is an old thread but what do you actually do with these thermistors once you have them?

All I have is a cut off wire, possibly twin wires, inside the cover on my steering column. Can I just connect a thermistor to the end of this rogue cable? Is polarity an issue?

Cheers in advance.

One less thing for me to worry about; - 1991 models only have two balls! Very Happy

From memory you just connect each end of the thermistor to two the wires that should go to where the OEM sensor would sit, on the underside of the steering column. No polarity "issues" - it's essentially just a resistor. Mine's been working great ever since I did this.

(this is on an L300 - I have no idea where the sensor is on the L400 or whether the thermistor referred to above is the appropriate one for that model - probably best to assume it isn't, but worst that could happen is you just get more funky temperature readings)
