Checking around the previous threads on this subject, it appears all the links don't actually point to a source of these units.

Has anyone got the RS components part number? Or any other cheap & cheerful suppliers details, as mine has finally given up, just displaying -E.

Cheers
Chris

Sorry HSTdoctor - I tried a while ago but no luck!! :? I think finding the Holy Grail would be easier Shocked as I just gave up on the threads - even emailed someone who was supposed to have a supply but didn't get a reply Sad Think the best option (unless we're super lucky) is to tape up the dead half of your display... Hi Guys,

I shared your frustration with promising posts that never gave answers, and then I played trial and error and finally got a bit of advice from a mate in NZ who gave me the resistance on his thermistor. If you replace the thermistor with a 1100 Ohm Thermistor from Radio Shack or similar, it should take care of your issue, unless the actual unit is bad.

Hope this helps! So nice to not have that "E" on screen! or -67, as mind read...

fletch

Is that 1100ohm @ 0° ?  R.S. Components here in the UK sell a reasonable selection of thermistors, it's just finding the right one.

A company called Jaycar over here sell a thermistor that is rated as 1000 ohm that is the closest one can get to the right value. It seems that it will do the job and one could add some resistance to adjust the reading to be reasonably accurate in the range of temps normally encountered.

I think, fingers crossed I have identified a thermistor that will do the job.

I contacted Mitsubishi and promptly needed a large brandy and a sit down when they quoted me £73.85+VAT for the genuine replacement.

The one I am going to try (and will report back if it's a success) is £0.56 from RS. (yes, 56 pence)

At last!!

I can now say with 100% certainty that I have located a thermistor that replaces the original fitment, I have fitted it into my Delica and checked the reading against the calibrated thermometer in work - its reading exactly the correct temp.

So, if anyone has a internal sensor problem, I can supply the thermistor or would be willing for anyone not happy with a soldering iron & shrink sleeve to send me the sensor and I will replace the thermistor and solder some new cables in place.

PM for details (cost & postage.

Now fitted and tested.

Works accurately but takes ages to record lower temps. Tested by taping a block of ice to sensor and evetually got down to zero.

How did you stick the thermistor to the plate? If you've completely covered it with glue or silicon, the adhesive may be acting as an insulator. The thermistor I fitted, reads accurately and quickly. I stuck it in with a small dab of super glue.

Exactly the same, super glue. Atmospheric temp was 18 degs so that won't help. Never the less I am happy wtih the result. Top class.

A little off topic but during this heat wave, I got in my Deli after it being parked in the sun all day and it said it was 47c inside! Zikes that's hot! Can any one beat it? Lowest I've seen is -17c.

I have just fixed my interior gauge for under £2, the sensor (broken and missing on mine) is located on the steering column surround and is connected by a plug next to the column adjustment lever, after some experimenting I have found that 4 x 1K thermistors seem to work quite well when carefully positioned inside the sensor carrier, to get the required resistance I connected (2 in parallel) in series with another (2 in parallel), this combination seems fairly accurate. (1K [1000 ohms] is the closest thermistor I could find and packs of 5 are available on ebay for £1.09 + 89p p&p, the seller was ecomponentuk. Hope this helps someone.

Zombie thread! Smile Apologies...

Just to say I've just ordered a set of five (minimum order) of the thermistors from RS components.

If anybody wants one for theirs, let me know. I will have some spares...
