When should this go?  Like how many miles, or would it be considered to last the life of the engine?  Thoughts anyone?

Annek, I believe that its actual life depends entirely on the vehicles maintenance schedule and style of driving. Mitsubishi don't state a replacement schedule for the chain like they do for belts, as they should last over 100,000 miles, if you follow the schedule, and don't drive like Lewis Hamilton all the time. Outside of that, if it breaks, it is not their responsibility. I believe the symptoms for needing changing are losing performance, and a chuffing sound when the engine is under load, eg accelerating hard or going up steep hills. Mark Broad (Mark 2) is your best man for this, he has changed 100s of them.

No, but it's getting a bit quiet! Facebook is where most folks are at these days.

I’m still around!
Mitzi went in yesterday for the bodywork repair.
Have to wait and see what the cost will be!
But will be good to have her back fixed.

£253 in parts so far!
Haven’t got an estimate for the work, but I know the guy doing the work and he won’t rip me off.
Then I have to fight the insurance for payout minus the excess!

These don't sound like general Deli maintenance issues then; you had an accident?

Hi, Ian, I am awaiting news and the bill on my L300. Still with the MoT garage, brakes being sorted. My last instruction to them was "Let me know if it needs any parts, I have a load of bits at home which you might find hard to get." having told me they would be starting work on the (failed) brakes last Thursday, and having heard nothing, I phoned them yesterday afternoon for an update. " They are fitting new brake pads and front brake hoses, but they were sent the wrong pads". I said " Look in the boot, there's a full set of new braided hoses in there, along with ball joints". (But no pads) "Also I have rear shoes and brand new  discs here if you need them. No word from them this morning, sometimes they work Saturdays, so my nails are taking a hammering!

PS, they've given it to the young lad to sort - presumably because they know it's a tough old bird and can stand a bit of abuse! Shocked

Having told them that they should not buy anything, or do any other work until conferring with you; so you can contest the bill if they buy anything.

I went in yesterday to see how it was going. Left front completed with new pads and my new braided hose. Right front needs new hose fitted ?! Although they only did the L/H one because the calliper had to come off to free up the sliders and extract pads rusted into the carrier!? Go figure! Still handbrake to sort (rears are all drum, no disc). I was told lack of friction is due to overheating - apparently can re- temper cast iron drums so they don't grip brake linings! scratch Brake shoes are three years/8,000 miles old, and I am not heavy on the brakes, as I downshift, and drive predictively to avoid unnecessary braking, and maximise fuel milage. In my book, drums that have overheated through heavy use tend to distort and cause vibration, no such vibration evident on mine. Cheap shoes linings may be glazed, but I don't think so (I checked, cleaned and adjusted the rear brakes manually immediately before test appointment. All linkages free, but I didn't have time to grease them. Still no further news today. I can get drums and shoes from Autodoc, approx £65 total.

Just trying to repost this, as this is how my last post shoulda looked, but didn't, for some reason <shrug>

I've struggled with some garages because they have done exactly this, so I hope your garage will get the repairs done and work with you on that!
