Sorry for a simple question.what is the best process to check the transmission fluid level.  If seen on the net that you turn the engine, cycle the gears and then check.  I've heard checking when cold with the engine off like checking engine oil is not the way to do it.

Its a 1994 L400 3L V6 auto.
