Eh up all.
I have a plan to use the space in the battery tray for a Leisure Battery with a small inverter under/behind the glove box.
Does anyone know of a suitable way around that area to get a pair of power cables through the firewall? (16mm2) |

Nothing That I can see is suitable for larger diameter cables, as I'm looking to move the main battery, also.
I was going to follow the fuel lines so no need to drill the firewall but if I was I'd use a gland that's fireproof like these and much better than a grommet when it comes to reducing the risk of cables chafing

Remove the glovebox and the surrounding fascia.
Look up to the outer-side of the speaker and you will spot a cutout section in the inner wing.
You can feed a cable into the wing from the engine bay, past the firewall, then back under the dash, using that.

exarkun.
What size leisure battery & inverter do you intend to use.
Due to inverters getting warm. Personally I would not hide one out of sight.
In the event of fan failure (if fitted) they can get very hot - - - Fire risk

Thanks for the replies everybody. It is a relatively small inverter that will be used most the time for charging my laptop. I opted in the end to put an anderson plug in the passenger footwell to which the inverter can be connected as and when required. In the battery tray I have installed a 90ah battery separated by a split charge system. The car stereo is also hooked up to this so when I am parked up I can use that to my hearts content without risk of draining the starter battery.
I can now work from the van all day as and when required. |
