I rmember reading ages ago about some peoples plans to install PC's to their cars - maybe as DVD or MP3 servers.
Well thought this new case might interest you - it takes a VIA EPIA motherboard and has external small power trnasformer like you would find with a laptop (i.e. just plug it in my inverter!)

There is room for a slimline DVD Writer and a Notebook hard drive.

That’s what I plan to do when I can raise the cash. I have spotted some low power motherboards from Maplin’s with a built on CPU that only need heat sink cooling. 8)
I just need to track down how to protect the hard drive from Green lane and Off road activates. Oh and get a touch screen for a good price. Twisted Evil

The Motherboard from Maplin is most likely a VIA Mini-ITX board. Depending on speed of CPU they are fanless or small heatsink with fan.
Fastest CPU available currently is only 1.3GHz - but they do have very clever chipsets and MPEG de-coders that make up for the lack or raw CPU power.

This system uses a touch screen (VIA board inside)

and there's me happy with an old laptop with a DVD drive and a huge hard drive, 14" screen, a cable to the aux input on the stereo and some velcro holding it onto the centre console!
Cheap and chearful, works a treat and easily removal for security.
