|
There are a few,(and so far JUST a few) of us Northerners planning a camping weekend at Coniston Hall Camp Site for (probably) the 3rd and 4th August. I was hoping to get enough firm commitments to be able to book an area for us, but it looks like being being an informal, book-yourself-in-if-you're-coming type do. However, as these events seem to develop their own momentum as more people show interest, or better, - commitment, it would be great if you're interested, or even just intending to be in the area anyway- if you could let me know in this thread. It would be grand, even reet gradely to meet some of the names and put faces to them. I'm intending to firm up the details after I visit Coniston for work this week, so if you like the plan, but not the dates, let me know - I'll go with the flow for serious contenders! _________________ Andy C L300 Super Exceed - over 100 smiles per gallon! |

Just read a some reviews on that place.
Seems a pleasant but basic site, in an open field and wooded area. But some reviews mention it is usually crowded in summer, with parties of noisy youths running wild through the woods, well after 3am.

Yes, I saw that, although apparently the owners have more recently taken a stricter line on the excesses of some campers, and anyway, by 3a.m., I'll probably be past caring. Good thing about the NO CARAVANS though - they are a pain on the Lake District roads, where they are permitted! Possibly not a site for those in search of quiet contemplation, although it is beautiful by the lake, but as I said elsewhere, you won't have the CC Gestapo insisting your van is parked precisely square and parallel on its pitch, and lights out and silence by 10.30pm! _________________ Andy C L300 Super Exceed - over 100 smiles per gallon! |

So far, 3 definites, 2 probables and 2 interested, go on Loke - make a commitment - these things need a critical mass before everyone starts pouring in. Visited the site today, and had a good walk around, chatted for an hour and had a coffee with 2 regulars aged 50+ who loved its relaxed, and friendly atmosphere, superb location on the lake shore, and good value - £15 for a camper van with 2 people. They confirmed it gets very busy at holiday weekends, and despite no formal pitches, stays friendly. Spoke to the owner who said it's best to book Friday night in advance and get there asap to avoid disappointment. Won't take bookings for holiday Sat./Sundays, you book in when you turn up (So park by the gate and check spaces before you pay for your swipe card to get vehicle on site). Duxy from Merseyside has been before and likes it - he's coming. See Coniston Hall website for more details. C U there? _________________ Andy C L300 Super Exceed - over 100 smiles per gallon! |

As Andyman knows, I will be there sometime tomorrow afternoon, by the skin o me teeth !! have had a knackered back all week but it's on the mend, the Deli is creaking and groaning over every bump and rough road due to dodgy milners bits, I have all the new parts ( genuine Mitsi and blueprint ) but not been able to fit cause of me back, sold two antique beds on ebay so delivering them to Keighley on the way, it's all in the Deli , Oz tent and awning sides ,camping gear ,beds, bike ( had to take the front wheel off )etc etc and still room for more if anyone wants to tag along , got a big roof rack too but wanted to load tonight and didn't want to chance me back climbing about the Deli |

l'll be there about 6.00pm Friday. Booked last night, they don't take credit or debit cards, so it's cash as you check in (but don't expect the ATMs in Coniston to have much in them!) If Loke and I can, we'll try to outline a space a few of us can get onto. I'm taking a bike, I think Duxy is bringing canoes, otherwise there is no real plan, just a chance to socialise with other Deli folks face to face, in pleasant, relaxed surroundings, and see what people do to their pride and joy! Hopeful, but realistic about the weather - packed waterproofs. So, come along for the craic! _________________ Andy C L300 Super Exceed - over 100 smiles per gallon! |

It's about 1400 miles south of where you'll be this weekend. _________________

Just a quick note to say despite, the small turnout (only 3 of us in the end) I thoroughly enjoyed my weekend - good company, good man-food (you know what I mean), good scenery, and (for the Lake District) surprisingly good weather! - it only really rained once we were tucked up in bed, and that was late after a lot of chat. So cheers to Loke and Deker, and to those who for various good reasons, didn't make it - I hope there will be another occasion soon. _________________ Andy C L300 Super Exceed - over 100 smiles per gallon! |

2 minds with one thought, High-rise - I just came on to check we are still on (It has been known for people to shy off at the last moment). So it's still a big YES from me, and looking forward to it. Do you want to meet at Coniston (John Ruskin School) or at the Old Dungeon Ghyll? _________________ Andy C L300 Super Exceed - over 100 smiles per gallon! |

ODG would suit me as I can park up on my pitch at the campsite and walk there and be able to partake of their real ales!!! _________________ Ian.
