|

Hi everyone, this is my first post & I'm here to sing the praises of a guy called Lee from tigweld4u
I recently purchased an L400 Jasper from ebay and wish I had checked in at this site to read about stuff to look for when buying an L400 Delica first. It seemed sound enough when I looked over it and the seller had driven it 100 miles to me and I then drove it another 20 miles to the train station before agreeing to buy it.
Anyway, next morning I started the old girl up and noticed a dripping underneath . On pulling the bonnet I could see straight away where it was coming from. The expansion tank had a load of sealer worked in around the main seam of it and was seeping water
Well I'll cut a long story short I got a £100 refund from the seller after learning the cost of a replacement tank. There's actually one on ebay direct from Japan for £695 at the moment and all the Mitsi breakers want between £85 - £120 for a second hand one.
Well I found the advert for tigweld4u offering a replacement alloy tank and I emailed Lee. He was so helpful & even though he was just off on a weekend break he finished making a tank for me and sent it Special Delivery next day. At a cost of £115 including postage I'm well pleased
A couple of points I'll mention about changing an expansion tank. The spring clips on the bottom hoses are a barsteward and I accidentally snapped one of the pipes off from the original tank just trying to get the hose off. It was brittle which makes me wonder how I would have faired with a second hand tank. I daresay a breaker would just cut through the hoses and leave you to remove them from the tank. Be wary of that, infact I wouldn't even entertain a second hand tank unless you got one for £5 which is all they are worth to my mind.
Anyway, if you need a new expansion tank or simply don't want to trust your 16 year old brittle relic that's currently handling the pressure of your cooling system then look no further than Lee. He's a gent and will do you proud . |

your right about them being brittle, you only have to look at them and they seem to snap , you have done the right thing and gone stainless, A lot of members have replaced theirs as i have and the general opinion is don't go S/H, buy new, wish when i bought mine new a few years back that the stainless tanks where available then
lots of help on here, members are very friendly and helpful especially when you start modding (you won't be able to resist :D )
so welcome to the club/mad house

I got a new tank from Lee last week, lovely piece of work and very quickly despatched (ordered Tuesday and had it on Friday). Couldn't really ask for more. Many thanks Lee :D |
