I want to change the head gasket on my Deli before it goes.
Mad Welsh Farmer (Dylan) wants to do his.
Andyj has expressed his interest in doing the same.

I thought we could go make use of Dylan's Barn and make a weekend of it.

Early days yet but I wondered if anyone else would be interested?

I intend to do my cam-chain at the same time.

So what you think?

Deker it seems that theses engines are prone to head gasket failure.
So we are going to change the head gasket before it pops.
It's not a difficult job so why not?

It's not normally regarded as a service item.

IMHO to unnecassarily remove an Aluminium head is not a good idea, they warp all too easily.

If I was having problems with gaskets blowing, I might be tempted to pull down the head bolts after some miles had been travelled,
but only as an experiment, and I would be "holding my breath"  Exclamation

So far, the worst thing that happened to my Deli, the plastic header tank parted company from the Radiator.
Replaced with an all metal one off the bay, under a "ton" from East London.
Even with that problem 8 miles from home, no head gasket problems.
An Iv been about, Wales quite a few times, two of which youv'e seen, Scotland twice.

IMHO the best way to prevent H/G failure - DON'T boot the car from cold starts. Simples  Smile
