I have been looking at some of the posts regarding pump seal repair prices and as mine needs doing I thought I would have a phone around the general area and see what I could get for a reasonable price.

As I am based in Enfield, N Middlesex I had a search on tinternet for Injection specialists in the SE area and came across Wades Diesels in Hoddesden, Herts.
I know Wades from when I was renovating a 56 foot 1954 MFV Fishing Boat and needed help with the engines (which were 5 foot long) and they know their onions and do a good job, if a tad pricey.

I called them and was quoted £320+ vat to just remove the pump, change the seal, re time and replace. They also said they would need the Deli for 2 days!

Tad steep I thought  Shocked

In the pursuit of a better deal I hit Tinternet again and came up with a gem! (I think).
Based in Sussex is a Gent who has 30 years experience on all vehicles and 10 years on imports...Also Mitsubishi/Suzuki dealer trained !! Ooooh!
He also does a mobile local service...Ooooh

Calling him revealed that not only will he change the seal, remove and replace, but will also provide the coolant/antifreeze to refill the system. Ooh Ooh!

Not only that Ladies and Gents! but will also provide new oil/fuel filters and change the engine oil "as this can get contaminated" all in 3 HOURS

How much I hear you say????? whats the price I hear you cry????

£175  :o

Anyone like some details??

It would be good to have his details for future reference, at that price I wouldn't bother getting my hands dirty.

Chaps that do deals like this are people that we need to make use of, it helps to keep them in business and then they will be around when you realy need them.

I do wonder if he is the same chap who my mate found on the net, when his water pump went on his Toyote Lucida, he got a mobile chap from somwhere Sussex ish area, this chap travelled up to the sunny climates of East Anglia, fitted a new water pump (genuine Toyota) cam belt and new anti freeze for about £200.00

Regards
Spike.

His website is:delicaman

I agree with what you say spike, there are loads of good mechanics out there who run small businesses that Can't afford the advertising and exposure of the larger garages, finding a gem of a mech is always handy....especially when they know how to work on your car!  Smile
I am booking mine in for sometime next week so will update everyone as to the standard of his work  :D

Confirmed it with him today and the 3 hours quote was for the seal only, he thinks around 5 hours should be plenty and time permitting he said he will look at my superselect flashing light problems too.
He told me he has 10 years experience working on delis and has a friend who imports them so he can get his hands on any bits for them if needed.
I will report back Sat evening and let you all know if he was any good.
Fingers crossed

Anywhere from £175 - £300 for JUST the seal seems to be the going rate ...

POCUK rave about Chris Cars in Hull, who do JUST the seal for ... wait for it ... just £150 Shocked

Great to find more regional places that are doing good deals though!

BTW - for a refurbished pump - add another £300!

Well, I have had my pump seal fixed and had the pleasure of watching the entire operation from over the mechanics shoulder.
What a pig of a job....one I am glad I didn't attempt myself, However, the mechanic who fitted it for me was amazing.
4 Hours from start to finish including fitting my new header tank courtesy of Strangerover (Thanks a million) changing the coolant, oil and filter change, 3 cups of tea, endless fag breaks and with my constant nattering and question asking.
I found him by accident on the net and called him up to book it in for today, took me 2 hours to get to his house (Thats right he did it on his drive) total cost of £175 and that included the genuine Bosch seal as fitted by mitubishi and a blueprint oil filter.
I have never seen someone who is so efficient, he opened my bonnet and diagnosed a few other niggles I had been having just with a glance. Told me what bits were missing and said he would source me the bits and fit them for me....these include several bolts, air con electrical connector and glow plug control unit.
Turns out he has worked for various Mitsubishi garages and race teams in the past so knows his onions.
He told me the quickest he has ever changed a seal is 2 hours inc removal and refitting! and can do 3 in a day.

So.......this lead me to one of my endless questions........."If I was to get 5 or 6 people who needed their seals done, would he do them over two days for a deal price" his answer was "yes of course, no problem" so if there is anyone in the south of England who needs their seals done I can arrange a group deal with him, if your further afield the B&B in the area are reasonable and you would still save over the £300 odd quotes that are flying around.
He is 2 miles from the south coast at Worthing so you make a mini break out of it.

If anyone is interested let me know and I will arrange it with him, unless Admin would like to try to arrange a better deal  :D
I am very happy with the work he carried out and would recommend him to anyone...not only is he skilled, and fast but a thoroughly nice and chatty chap to boot.
The drive back was fantastic with the Deli driving just how she was supposed too....my jaw is hurting with the Deli grin I have had for the last few hours  Laughing  Laughing
