I would avoid towequipe like the plague Evil or Very Mad

Bought one for my L300, would not fit correctly, needed lots of bits cutting out. Checked with Towequipe that I had the correct towbar, I did :?

Towequipe didn't want to know, though they did ask for a drawing of the bits that didn't fit, no recompense, no offer of replacement, absolute crap service. Needless to say they didn't get the drawings.

I've since removed the towbar as it was such an embarassment, perhaps I should have left it on :D

I bought my towbar from Towequipe for my L400 Deli and it went straight on the car with no problems.

The whole job from put in car on the drive to pulling off again took me 1 and half hours. Laughing

I did not find it a problem, maybe it just the difference between the models Rolling Eyes

I have just finished fitting a Towequipe 705 Towbar to our Space Gear!

The bits were like a jigsaw and the destructions might as well been written in Japanese like everything else on the Deli.

However once under the Deli all became clear and the actual towbar went on in about 3/4 hour.

The electrics (twin electrics) were a completely different matter. I am used to working on motor bikes but the Deli is in a class of its own! I nearly went to the hospital to borrow a Laproscope and associated tools. The wiring took 4 1/2 hours.

Having said that fitting it myself saved over £150 :D

Anyone else who tows a Caravan have to fit a drop plate?

Yeah went for the twin electrics and also went for a socket fitted to either side of the towball rather than above each other on one side

I did the same only to find that I couldn't use my stabaliser without relocating the sockets higher up above the towball. Obviously this won't apply if you get a van with a hitchhead stabaliser.

Tinca, I didn't use a drop plate and the van sits nice and level with no stability problems. However I do prefer it to be a bit nose down so that the airflow under the van when moving raises it to the level. But as I said, no problems with stabilty upto legal speeds Wink

my towbar was on the Deli when i bought her, first time away with the van nearly pulled my balls down to knee height because of the height of towbar :o after checking it out i found that the bar had been put on upside down Question turned it over things much better now no drop plate needed just waiting to try it out again as soon as i have healed down below Embarassed Embarassed

I tow a twin wheeler so towball height is a little bit more critical than with a single axle. I have just fitted a 4" drop plate (Indespension haven't gone metric yet)!

Incidently in last months Caravan club magazine there was a column on Grey Imports having different clutchs & drive gear to UK models, basically inferring that Imports a not up to towing.

Did anyone see the article or have any comments?

Hi Tinca, didn't see the article but if their statement was true and applied to the likes of the Deli' or Pajero etc. how would they cope off-roading pulling two and a quarter tones up a muddy hill Question :?

Can't see another ton on the back making much difference Wink

I must admit when I fitted mine I couldn't decide which way up to fit it cos it'll go on both ways. I only decided which way up to fit it by loosely fitting it both ways and measuring how high the ball was off the floor

Hi

I've just fitted a towequipe one and havn't had any problems. I gave it several coats of Halfrauds chrome spray paint for weather protection and it almost matches the silver paintwork on the Deli Smile Picked the caravan up yesterday from storage and visually checked the outfit and it was level, when towing it you wouldn't have known there was anything there.

Cheers

David

Must have been the weather.... fitted my Toeshure Wink iron-mongery yesterday. And yes, I did fit it upside down first! Laughing

Sigh.... anyway, the only errrr moment was the application of the foreward facing members. I had to read the instructions a couple of times until the proverbial penny dropped. Embarassed

Apart from that it was easy-peasy lemon-squeezy. Just need me auto-sparkz to pop along to wire it up along with the parking radar.

PS. I don't mind talking through the installation if anyone needs some guidence. I s'pose I should have taken photos. Sad

I have a problem in that i have a twin box st/st exhaust fitted to my bus and i think they will need to be moved, i would like to see some photos or if there is anyone local to me (Bristol) that has a towbar fitted if i could have a quick ganders to see whether i would need to modify the towbar or the exhausts?

I have now decided to fit parking sensors....for the wife of course. SO i was hoping to wire both the sensors and the tow electrics at the same time.

cheers guys....Arctic Fox[img][/img]

Seti-Yeti -

Did you fit the towbar with the towball holes at the top or the bottom?

At the bottom. The fitting is designed to place the ball as low as possible rather than high. I used to use a drop-plate on my Paj to tow a twin axle sleeping box as they are quite particular about ride height.

I will take some close up photos this weekend and publish them.

Sorry a few are a bit dark but you can see what needs to be seen.

Know any good auto-sparkz?
