I'm looking into buying a towbar. So as I know a lot of you already have these I thought id ask a few questions.
Thinking of buying off Towequipe as sold on ebay. Are these good towbars or can anyone recommend any others?
Also I have noticed a few around on other cars with Twin electric's on their towbars. As this is an upgrade do I need it or is a single enough?
Is it easy enough to fit these or would it be better to get it done in a garage? Any tips what to look for or how to fit would be appreciated cheers Steve Smile

I got one from these people and it fitted fine and looks well made.

Only shortcoming is that it only comes painted in fairly poor standard. As every tow bar I have ever had has rusted and looked awful after a few months I had mine zinc plated and it looks good and will never rust.

IMHO it's also probably worth paying the extra for the stainless steel bash plate.

Best of luck

Yeah it s okay 1170cbx I'm not bidding I'm gonna contact them and buy direct as dogsbody mentioned. I was just wondering about fitting and if there would be any reason i would need twin electrics? Thanks Ian I think the zinc plated sounds good . And i might pay the extra for the stainless steel bash plate.

I bid for one on e-bay, was outbid but was happy not to push the price up. Immediately after the auction I received an e-mail stating that the seller had a number for sale and inviting me to buy one at my highest unsuccessful bid. This was still lower than their direct purchase price, so I was happy.

Fitting it was very easy. I decided not to use the connection blocks supplied and spliced and soldered into the necessary wires. Even doing this the whole job only took 2 - 3 hours. Spannering under a vehicle makes a pleasant change to sitting at a desk ! The fitting and wiring instructions (single electrics only) were spot on.

Twin electrics are needed if you are caravanning,it charges the battery and keeps the fridge going when you are travelling. If you don't intend to have a caravan you only need single.Hope this helps.

Yeah went for the twin electrics :D and also went for a socket fitted to either side of the towball rather than above each other on one side Wink me thinks this may help off road. Yes it has got a permanent supply.

I must admit it was quite fun spannering under the vehicle. Best thing about the Deli is you don't have to jack it up Wink

i need a towbar to tow my boat trailer. the people at Towequipe were ready to sell me one but told me to go find my model number...

i have the choice of:

TC 701 Delica 4x4 MPV series P25W / P35W 89-95
TC 705 Delica 4x4 MPV series PE8W / PD8W

my Delica is an M-reg bog standard (no cristalite roof or captains chair etc) green over grey Delica. any idea which of the above it might be - or where on the beast i have to look to ind out?

cheers

You can check the VIN number ( just above airfilter on bulkhead ). It will tell you the model number you have.

a description of the model types can be found in the FAQ section here

http://www.MDOCUK.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=141

Basically they will need to know if you have an L300 (older square type) Delica or one of the newer model L400. If you have an L400 (which I think you do) they will need to know if it a short (standard) or long wheel base type.

cheers for that mate.

i'm at work at the mo and if i can avoid leaving the building
to check the VIN no. and order the towbar today it'd be a
touch. on that basis (and don't laugh) how do i know if its
a short or long wheelbase?
