Bought Delica 2.8 chamonix. Drove out of delaer, diff light stayed on in 2WD, horrible to drive, vibration that seemed to translate into steering, whine from rear diff, took it straight back, he says he has to replace relays and has ordered from mitsi, i am not aware of any relays and anything electrical that disengages diff. Anyone know any different? Is he trying to turn me over? When i pick it up again what do i need to look/listen for/do to make sure super select is working correctly. Really love the look of the Delica.

any help advice woyld be much appreciated, to a newbie Delica buyer. Rolling Eyes

Hi there matey and welcome to the club :D
There is some truth in what he says about relays but i Can't see that causing the failure to disengage the diff lock,i had a similar thing with mine whilst trying out everything to make sure it worked and as i tried to pull away off my drive the diff was still locked in all tho no light to warn me,so to avoid "winding the diff up" i reversed back to my original position and wiggled the lever through all gear positions and to and throw the diff lock to free up the sensors on the transfer case after about 5 mins of doing this it was fine and had disengaged .
It could be the dealer is changing the sensors on the transfer case that would be main dealer parts only too,the reason it has done this is probably through lack of use ,all the sensore and switches become sticky and when used get stuck in one position.
when you get the Delica back check to make sure it engages/disengages through all 4WD modes and check the rear diff isn't making any untoward noises as well as the front diff too, depending on how far you had driven with it like that will really be the teller to if you have suffered serious diff wind up and damaged the transfer case, hopefully this is not the case and when sorted will be fine with no problems,i hope that puts your mind at rest a bit and hopefull you will ge t the Delica back all well and mended all the best

Hi idwal67 and welcome to the club :D

I *think*the solenoids concerned are the ones connected to the vaccuum hoses that control the 4WD light systems ,i think they are located just up alongside/behind the air filter box and are little black things with black tubes connected to them, they run down the vehicle to underneath and connect onto what looks like brake pipes i think the solenoids have a blue and yellow spot on them (theres 2 ).it could be something as simple as a split pipe or loose pipe causing the illumination constantly also i know on the pajeros theres also vac solenoids on the axles as well, could be worth checking these also,
I notice your from brighton also if you need any help just shout and i could always meet up and give you a hand,I'm only over in shoreham, anyways hope that helps all the best
