Well after a bit of umm and err about swapping my twin batteries for a single, I decided to stay with the twins. Why? Well it is such a nicely knitted mess under there and the current batteries have had it. Last night's cold snap just about finished them off, but not bad for 11 years old!

So looking at the cost of a single + the new terminals and sorting out the wiring in the freezing cold I went the easy route and got two more.
My old ones were unheardof fitting 651 so replaced them with
Type 069, (70Ahr, 600CCA).
Having looked at the parts book type 072 or 089 would also fit.

A big single would have given about 95Ahr and 800ish CCA. Keeping the twins gives 140Ahr and 1200CCA. Probably over spec for southern UK, but in this weather just perfect.

BTW £50 each + VAT from local auto electrical place. Could have saved a fiver going to alpha batteries but these are here now, no waiting for a delivery.

Leisure battery is going under the back floor!

I just had to do this on mine But ended up swapped out my two original 1994 Mitsi 069's 70x540  for a single JCB 642 120x1000...069's were 55 each plus the vat.. But I opted for the Single as there is no need for 1100/1200cca unless you intend to leave your ignition on all night and the start your truck in the morning :-)...

That would have been my ideal route, but I need the van at the weekend and it is too *** cold to spend too long working on it!

It is quite a bit of knitting in there to sort out - with extra fuses and cabling for the stereo, lights, inverter, rear power outlets etc
Next time the batteries need changing...

This forum is so useful!

One of my batteries has died, stopped holding charge. Usual freezing cold weather problem, plus not much use over this year hasn't helped.

So, instead of pulling out the batteries to see what type, I just searched up on the last time I replaced them from the warmth of the sofa.
Guess what. It's freezing again and I have no inclination to rewire to single battery. So ordered two more from alpha batteries this time.
Hopefully they'll last longer than six years. And next time I may even do a single battery conversion....

Only other option to help the batteries would be a maintenance charger.
I have a solar panel in mine but that only charges in daylight.
If I could park closer to the house I would have a maintenance charger fitted.

Yes that's a good point.
I'm sure I've got one somewhere from motorbike days - time for a rummage in the shed
