Hello Everyone,
I hope you are all well. Does anyone know any garage which has experience about delicas? ( I am in London SW) I have tried many garages in London and I am still not satisfied with the various results. Most of them make more problems after service and also don't recongnise faults....even basic ones. So just fed up with wasting my money. I had my timing chain has been fitted with all the gaskets, water pump, thermostat, aircon pump, turbo...etc. Recently the car ( Delica 2.8 turbo 1996 lwb) developed a small oil leak at the front of the engine where the half moon grommet is ( which is also new). The service mention above done 4000km ago. I don't want to blame anyone but I don't want to take it back to the garage where it was before( it was abroad during my holiday). Also after fitting a new tempreture sender ( when bought did not work) the tempreture is well above the middle range mostly at the top. Checked with a tempreture meter gun and in the service they said it was okay, so probably dashboard problem.
So if anyone knows a good garage or mobile service man to sort out : oil leak, changing oil pressure sensor, oil + filter, fuel filter, air filter and all the brakes around discs + pads. Got the usual flashing four wheel light so maybe to check that as well. Lastly to fit two original shocks to the front maybe the rear as well to get my esp back:) I am looking for a reliable garage or mechanic who works responsibly can give valuable advice and happy to service my Delica every time.
With Regards,
Alex |

I can, with your assistance help with brakes, fully equipped to skim discs and clean calipers.
and the shocks, don't know about the "esp"
Oil and filter, I now struggle getting under vehicles, I can show you and assist, how to do it.
Oil & temp sender/s should be easy.

I think you mean ECS. ( Electronically Controlled Suspension )
Esp usually means extrasensory perception. :D _________________

Do you want contact by phone. Seeing that you cannot use the PM facility.
You can receive a PM, but not reply.

Following this thread whilst taking a break from decorating.
Mr D sounds very willing and like a Delica good old boy.
My Deli is currently on blocks for a front end rebuild, bushes brakes, shocks, rust treatment, etc.
Just managed to locate a locking diff for installation when the Deli is mobile or I can get to it at the back end in my garage/junk store.
So Mr D, you may be getting a call some time in the future. Payment terms crap, but good workshop facilities with copious bacon sarnies and tea/coffee.
But now back to the painting. _________________ Talk the torque

I'm okay as long as I can sit on a stool.
Me not up for travelling mechanic, got suspension bush/removal/inserting tools somewhere near me.

okay, I also suffer from age related problems and dyslexia.
Eye sight, hearing, bowel movements, stairs, painting, all can get in the way of really enjoying Delicas.
But I am determined to build my LWB and show what Delis are all about.
Any help would be appreciated, on line or appearing at NN13 5HN.

Piles of work to do in the house and work on Deli currently on hold.
However, just done a deal with the missus; I spend two days working on the house, then a day off, then two days in the garage. Weekends are floaters.
So hopefully progress will now be made on all fronts. _________________ Talk the torque

Hi K,
Not really to be honest. I do everything myself now whatever is possible. The van has been in lost of garage including Rainham where the reconditioend the engine: crap service, damaged the bodywork, the interior, the rear ladder and got it back as dirty as possible. And they did not put it right back together. Lied about turbo, did steal supplied parts......and so on.
Its been with other garages to try to fix aircon, they are useless, if it is not a recharge only comes the head scratching
So what i did since i wasted 7k on garages? I did everything again for myself. Did the engine, suspension, breaks. This summer painted the van using Epoxy primer and Upol raptor and Insulated every panel possible inside. Its come up really well, much much quieter.
All been undersealed and welded. Paid 3k for that and just found a hole after a work been carried out by a garage. So I am doing that for myself again. Fitted new carpet to the floor, and started to do some new faux leather upholstery.
Also fitted night heater this summer with the help of my dad. Probably this is the best work on the van as my dad helped.
One thing I regret: the flocking. I was so silly, been in a dreamworld about flocking and bought the kit it would need: machine, adhesive, thinner, flock. I flocked the car everything inside. Hmmmm, the dasboard is okay, nice and sturdy but i think i bought the wrong adhesive for plastic parts and its peeling off so I am doing it again but this time I will upholster every single panel, door card etc not flocking.
Today just went to pick up my newly refurbed 15” pajero wheels with 265/70 general grabber tyres, Hm did not fit straight. The tyres rubbing the inner part of the arch a bit so need to be modified a bit but it will look great. By the way, when they removed the wheels again (as I could not leave the place with wheels rubbing the arch) all the wheel bolts ripped off the paint around the holes. I did not say them anything but i think thats not okay with a newly refurbed wheels. So this garage also won't get a noble prize:) Just paid them £800. But i think this time will take it back as if the paint cracks it will crack on more places and it will look really bad.
Oh and fitted a completely new compressor, condenser, expansion valve to the aircon system this summer and its a lot better. Also cleaned all the pipes.
At the moment removed the rear seats and will make a nice seat/bed combination to make it more useful.
So a lot of work and money but started not to go down the drain as I can do most of it.
Another thing. As I changed the carpet (bought some very good quality one 14mm deep , british wool underlay, one layer butyl sheet and one layer 10mm closed cell foam and one layer acoustic membrane underneath) thought would be nice to have some extra car carpets on top of that. I imagined it is going to be deep pile if you buy the best, but not again. I would have been better off if i buy some bathroom carpet and lay down instead of paying 100 for a company to supply the ones. Anyway, so I will do a set for myself to make sure it is going to be deep pile and matching with the carpet underneath.
Removed bull bar to later replace with some more modern aftermarket one, removed side steps as they not much needed anyway.
Lots of things has been done now, and still ongoing but its okay. Sometimes thinking about a bit more modern car now as I am getting tired.
How is yours ?
Alex

One more thing:
The funniest guy was near London the east side: i have been at a well recommended “aircon specialist“ who was so sure if i travel two hours he can fix it straight away. okay went there, then he didn’t even feel the interest to try to find the problem just said he does not know:) okay. Then he said he nows a guy called .......... who really in delicas. okay , lets get his details as I had a bit of Coolant loss and heating problem etc. I left car there, it was there with him for two weeks and he washed one side of the car ( yes he said he had time only for one side:):)and changed the winndscreen washers, he topped up the coolant with tap water and was taking my car for offroading. How nice, than he said could not find any problem so he asks only £450 Cash. okay paid as usual everyone and left knowing I won't see him again in my life.
So be careful. What I have learned, that never say money is not a problem. Does not make any difference, these garages don't have the knowledge at all to fix any level two difficult problem ( level one is fitting new parts, that is the only thing they do using their computers and nice gadgets which the Delica don't communicate anyway). So the outcome is the same, if you are rich or poor you won't get better result. Do it slow, do it yourself and buy another car while you work on this. Oh and if something you cannot do the first time you can do it the next time or after. Do it slow and the proper way.

It's a shame you didn't get back onto Deker. Even though he's not as strong as he was, he knows 2.8 L400s inside out, and could certainly help you solve your mechanical problems. He's an engineer and good old-fashioned diagnostic mechanic. It's also a shame that cowboys have wasted your time and your money. You sound like the kind of hard-working and quick-learning guy who just needs a knowledgeable old hand to show you what to do. It would be nice to see pics of the work you have done, either here or on the Facebook Delica forum. _________________ Andy C L300 Super Exceed - over 100 smiles per gallon! |

NO, I don't know Delica's inside out. I only know how to fix the very few problems my very reliable Delica has had.
And consumable service items - Suspension/steering Ball joints.
Brakes (bleeding, seized callipers etc) Drive shaft gaitors
Timing chain (Thanks to mark3 for showing me his special tool )

These years, I'm more into making parts, and general machining engineering.

Hey Delica People,
The reason did not contact to Deker as I totally forgot about this site after some hard years (did not even log in here the last three years or more as I remember)
I am sure he knows a lot even if he says not:)
Anyone here has a rear spoiler for high roof Delica? That is one of the last thing is missing from it.
Have a great weekend everyone.
