|

I am looking to add a catch can but all the generic ones seem to have have 10mm pipe fittings , the Deli is 20mm , are there reducers you can buy ? or is there a 20mm one people have used ....also where is best place to site it ...i am thinking around where the wiper motor is ?
any advice greatly appreciated _________________ Always remember when you read my replies I know less than Bazza. |

Put a short length of 10mm hose pipe over the connection, as an adapter, then slip your 20mm hose over that. _________________

Genius ...thanks Lewis ....what size is best for the Deli , I've heard they need to be matched to the engine or is that just performance cars? _________________ Always remember when you read my replies I know less than Bazza. |

I've not heard anything about them being matched to the engine.
This is the one I bought, plus there are many others on there you could buy:- https://www.carbuilder.com/uk/rectangular-oil-catch-tanks-natural-aluminium-330ml
I mounted mine to the wheel arch, under the master cylinder. However it appears you don't need a professional one.
A couple of years ago I also tried out the method Pat (Cunninglinguist) used on his - i.e. a plastic soda bottle with the cap and neck opening removed, with a couple of small slits for vent holes.
It was still on during my last test and had been through two MoT's with it on and there was no complaint from the mechanic. The oil that has collected in the bottom, in two years, is about 100ml. _________________

That's great advice thanks ....I had heard it was something to do with the amount of room the air had to circulate in but from what you say it would seem to be just fine for the Deli ...thanks I will go for that alloy one as it's nice and shiny _________________ Always remember when you read my replies I know less than Bazza. |

My tuppence worth (for what its worth)
Assuming we talking 2.8 here the Deli breather system is a PCV system, Positive Crankcase Ventilation, the positive coming from the small amount of vacuum assistance it gets from the breather hose feeding into the turbo inlet hose.
If fitting a catch can that is exposed to atmosphere instead of the turbo inlet your taking away the small amount of vacuum assistance the system had so on that basis i wouldn't be fitting anything that caused a reduction in breather hose diameter _________________

Thanks Mark,
Problem is they don't seem to do generic catch cans with 20mm connectors plus i want the one that fits between the crank case and and turbo air intake _________________ Always remember when you read my replies I know less than Bazza. |

Thanks Deker and would love to see your cheapo version i will send my email address on a message , but i fitted this already , i fixed up a bracket and used two convenient pre drilled holes in the wheel arch and fitted the can Lewis suggested , the hoses fit well but temporary till the new ones arrive ...i wanted red but why are 20 mm and 15mm so hard to source ???

Looks neat, although, the garden hose clashes badly with the red-and-bling general theme. But then mis-match is the current, "hipster" style in decor! _________________ Andy C L300 Super Exceed - over 100 smiles per gallon! |

I got tired of emptying mine, I made it from a stainless steel biscuit barrel, I posted the results on here in 2006.
My truck now does it’s own oil changes - which is handy. _________________ Artificial intelligence is no match for natural stupidity.... |

Yoza , wow a stainless steel biscuit tin :O you are really posh
I gave the the rocker cover a good old clean out as i've heard the baffle plate can get clogged up, also cleaned out the inter cooler and pipes which did have a bit of oil in them , so its going to be interesting to see how much oil is going to collect in the catch can . _________________ Always remember when you read my replies I know less than Bazza. |

Did you notice the thimble type device hanging from a piece of steel pipe on the rocker cover ?
It collects oil and spits it through the rocker filter and into the rocker breather hose.
There is a reason for this, but I’m keeping it to myself as I was laughed at last time I mentioned it. _________________ Artificial intelligence is no match for natural stupidity.... |

Yes I did notice it as it made it a bit awkward lifting off the rocker cover ....so now you've mentioned it I think you have to say _________________ Always remember when you read my replies I know less than Bazza. |

If it is like mine, then it is polished aluminium. _________________

I wanted to collect as much oil as was blown from my rocker cover breather pipe.
It was a biscuit barrel not a buiscuit tin - I think it held 1.5 litres.
After a few months I found out what that thimble and pipe was for, after replacing my turbo I removed my catch can. _________________ Artificial intelligence is no match for natural stupidity.... |
