Hello everyone,

So these 2 "blocks" have just been resting on the top of the engine in the back since I got the car https://www.dropbox.com/s/k2xk2ltj60gltet/IMG00464-20140506-2115.jpg. It runs fine (apart from long distance overheating which is a whole story on its own) so i never bothered to mess with it.

But the other day i was observing the turbo and release valve and upon closer inspection of these "blocks" i noticed this: https://www.dropbox.com/s/ejsmm878e029hz0/IMG00465-20140506-2115.jpg
An issue i suddenly had at the time was that the car would not raise in rpm when the ac compressor engages. As i am used to it doing that. So i came across that cut wire which appears to have happened recently. Found it by complete coincidence. So i fixed it and now the car raises rpm again with ac on. Strange, so i thought hmm then what do the others do?
This is what some mechanic did in the past. Probably when they pulled the engine out:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/97ybwiy8rn8rt89/IMG00471-20140508-0910.jpg  This one appears to go to that line on the right, it has been clogged with a screw Sad
https://www.dropbox.com/s/s7r1896q04uqc5j/IMG00472-20140508-0910.jpg As you can see in this one, the top end of the line is crumbled and hard from leaning against the exhaust manifold
https://www.dropbox.com/s/9p7r2sqvxjpxaon/IMG00469-20140508-0909.jpg You can see both connections on one of the "blocks" are broken
https://www.dropbox.com/s/ivmnv9iqbdlpwfg/IMG00473-20140508-1006.jpg This second line from one of them goes to the egr valve (so its pretty important i think)

Can anyone tell me what these "blocks" are and how important they are? I don't even know where the majority of those lines are supposed to go.
I am ashamed of the work done here. I didn't see it was that bad Rolling Eyes

The pipe with the screw in it is for actuating the EGR valve, when the EGR valve has been purposely blanked off the pipe is blocked with a screw or similar.[ most of us have a blanked off EGR valve.]

The block connector looks like a temp sender pick up, look fort a two spade male connector with one spade at 90degs to the other.

I think they are something do with the egr relay but not to sure. What I do no is that they should attach to the left side of the intercooler at the rear when you face the engine. I bet there are another couple of new looking screws in there place. It is an easy 1 to forget to assemble as I've done it myself! I'm not a mechanic though.!

The double vacuum valve is for the EGR.

The single one with the blue connector is the idle up valve fir the aircon.

Yoza,
I'm glad most of you have it. That makes me feel better at least. What is the purpose of blanking the egr valve then?

Green Grouch,
I see where you mean, now i can finally bolt it in place as soon as i find a screw that fits. Awesome :D

Thanks for the info Lewis, I'm also very happy with the diagram!

The first post below will tell you what it is and why it is blocked off by some UK owners. The second shows you how to do it.

However you should check the laws in your country in case you are not permitted to remove it.
