Tried out my cb for the first time at the weekend, I can hear people just fine but when I press the transmit button I just get a really loud contrast whine. I would guess it's feedback but is this even technically possible with a cb? _________________

Yes its very possible. I would check the mic wiring first. Is it the original mic and if so are all the wires securely soldered at each end? If its not the original mic you need to make sure its wired correctly. All modern diode switched cbs need at least 4 wires to work properly. |

It was a set I bought, it's cheap but all brand new, I could pop it open and see what it's like inside. _________________

Does the squeal alter much if you waggle the mic cable? And have you ensured the antenna install is good? Where is the meter swining to on tx? |

Nope it doesn't alter at all, TX meter is about halfway.
It's more a constant tone than a whine, my description wasn't very good. You can hear it in the video which I hope to post in the next couple of days.
Antenna is mag mount on the bonnet (it's not the longest antenna though), it came with the kit. _________________

Yes but you were only 12 feet away so it probably wasn't through the cb _________________

I had it wired into the car speakers, changed to the high level input and the noise went away. Unfortunately, at the last meet I didn't seem to be able to respond / transmit _________________

Maybe its broken. Cbs are never built that well. Or not set up right. If you adjusted the antenna for swr then that will tell you whether you have power out and also what the antenna condition is? |
