the rig is untouched and a mark2. good nick also.
I have used the Swr calibrate to get it down and can only manage just under 3...is that okay for a mobile rig? |

got it down to just above 2 now.....
I've got the coax looped up several times underneath the passengers side footwell carpet as it is too long.....would this affect the swr when keying the mic? |

It shouldn't do, but if you have rf on the outside of the coax it will, coiling the coax may in fact help to stop to it, and it would explain the poor swr you had to start with, I would be checking the earth bond of the antenna mount. |

I've put the gutter mount on the gutter ( okay, I know thats a stupid thing to say ) however, the two screws that fix the gutter mount clamp on go down vertically into the gutter. is there a coating of some sort on the gutter that may affect the grounding...if so then thats where the problem is,......( by the way - i've had my RF gain on minimum by mistake...thought it was the mic gain and vice versa....don't ask....its a welsh thing ,....lol...at least I know I'm piking people up as well and I'm getting out also....
whats the lowest a good swr should be ?

Hehe, I've made some silly operator erros too, my HF rig was sat there beeping at me all the time, couldn't suss it out, I didn't notice my wife had dumped some stuff on the morse key
Mobile SWR I would expect to get down to 1.5, and quite often better, the gutter i guess is painted, gutter mount screws usually get through the paint and earth that way, but it's not ideal, try a jump lead from the mount to a good earth, (the mirror arms are not by the way, they are in rubber inserts) if the swr changes much, its a bad earth! |

got it under 2 now !...scrpaed the black waterproofing on the inside of the gutter where the screws tightened onto from the mount. I'm wondering if having the whip too close to the roof bar and lights may be causing the swr to be slightly too high as well .....
going to take some pictures now......and put them on here in about 20 mins |

Nostalgia ain't what it used to be but I also had the Cobra 148GTL version. Had it chipped and tweaked. I forget how much power it has (Yep, I've still got it somewhere!) but I do remember getting the 'legal' channels added just before CB became useless due to the kids playing on them! I did think about fitting it into the Deli but I figured it was too big. And what's the point of having hundreds of channels, when there's no-one on them to listen to... _________________

I used to have a rig set up in an old honda civic (hondamatic model) when i was 18 and working on several farms.... great for overtaking tractors... great laugh at times. especially when it made my car look like a radio controlled car with the auto swr and mag mount on the roof lol.
Thinking about getting another setup for the Deli, do many MDOCUK members still use them? |
