I'm considering buying one of these now that I have a big beast with a towbar, I think it'd be very useful, I'd love a towing dolly but I just haven't the room to store one and Can't justify the comparable costs of a dismantalable one. This is only about £150 delivered off everybodys favourite auction site.

Anybody used one? They okay to tow with? Obviously i'll get a cheap lightboard aswell, your thoughts?

Edit: This isn't an advert by the way, just looked at the pic I chose and realised it had someones website details on, I have no connection whatsoever with it.

Edit2: sorry if I've posted it in the wrong section, just thought towing might be suitable.

You asked for advice..... I borrowed one to tow a Jeep, and B'cos I was in a rush I coupled it up wrong to the jeep I managed to destroy the CV boots........ otherwise good to go, so just take your time attaching it to the tow vehicle and don't forget the lighting board,,,,,,,, hth

I should have done a bit of digging before I posted as my answer would have been "whatever needed towing!" but a quick search on pistonheads and someone had asked the same question and been given this link as an answer .... http://www.ntta.co.uk/faq/

So its no use to me sadly, I knew it'd be a grey area being unbraked but thought the towed car would be treated as a trailer and as such not need tax and MOT, seems I was wrong as it does need this if ANY wheel touches the road, meaning towing dollys lifting 2 wheels wouldn't be legal either, bummer, could have been a nice little earner!

Thanks for your input Steve, that very much sounds like something I'd have done aswell so could have been a top tip!

I knew the vehicle would have to be legal, and with an Auto the prop would have to be disconnected..
Glad you got your answer, just sorry it's not the one you wanted Crying or Very sad

Its funny because on my travels I've seen numerous people towing what are very clearly off roaders and not remotely road legal with these A frames, I guess they just rely on luck that they won't get caught ...... or damage the off roader while playing rendering it unable to be towed back!

Shame though, I'm just going to have to find/buy somewhere to put a trailer!

I only found out while looking on Ebay, there was a notice somewhere that came up..
But like your link say's, the vehicle can only be moved to the first place of safety, after that it's called tranporting..
