AVG 6..not 7.. I've been using it for about 2 years and its never missed a virus yet..if you update it..
No observable slow down of PC and has never caused a conflict with other programs.

Two very important points...
after you install it ..there are two parts to the interface..
a main shortcut on the desktop and a smaller icon in the taskbar.

After installation.. click on the main desktop icon..
Under the "Service" tab ..click on "Complete test settings" and put a tick in the box.."Test all extensions" click "okay"
You can now exit this section...

On the taskbar there is a small icon ..click this

This opens a panel with several tabs..taking them in order.

"resident shield"
... tick "Use Heuristics"
Click.."Save parameters as new default"

Email Scanner

Tick everything

Everything else is up to yourself..schedule for updates, etc..

Before you exit this panel .....click apply.

Without these configuration steps it's useless.....

To update the scanner , click on the small icon, Update manager , and
when connected to the internet ...click "Update now"

I do it every time I go online..

Ps..there is no spyware involved.
