I'd be interested too......I'd be willing to go there if the first one produced was mine and free!! Wink He'd make his money selling the rest easily enough.................................and its a long hike as they are based in North Herts! However, my Deli needs to be sorted first so that I can travel at speeds greater than 30!!

If its suitable, small inlet lug and large lug at bottom broken off other wise intact.  Is there a direct contact at Darton Fabrications or do you want me to send it to you (strangerover)

I'm sure I read somewhere that alloy ones aren't a good idea because they need to be able to blow under pressure if anything goes wrong ??  Shocked ...or maybe it was just one of those strange dreams....been having a lot recently..... Shocked ...

yup thats why the cap is spring loaded and bottle has an overflow hose to allow excess water/pressure escape

Rally cars & Race cars; ALL use alloy tanks

My late model 1500cc FIAT X1/9 had a platic tank that split when the head gasket went
I replaced it with an earlier 1300cc FIAT X1/9 STAINLESS STEEL expansion tank.....a well known "hot-up" in the world of the FIAT X1/9 owner....

At the end of the day the cap is the safety valve....failing that a hose will split... BEFORE a metal expansion tank gets knackered.....

Car Manufacturers us plastic expansion tanks because they are cheaper to make considering the weird shaped places that they want to fit them in....
It simply not economically viable to make such weird shaped things from metal on a mass production basis.....

Go get those specially fabricated metal expansion tanks for your '400s guys.... Wink

I have a tank at a workshop that will produce in stainless, just waiting for him to give me a price Rolling Eyes
I think the tricky part is getting the neck for the cap to fit. He has said he can have one machined as i like the polished stainless, however if it ends up costing squiilions i am up for an alloy one.

keep us posted

Alloy one £95 first one ready within couple of days of him getting one to copy and preferably a vehicle to try and fit it in incase it needs anything altering slightly, as space is very tight for it.

I may be up for one of these, depending on the cost of the stainless ones.

Hi

You may have some success with a temporary repair, but on the whole a replacement is a better bet as when they let go they can do so with severe effect on the shape of your bonnet (ask Rusty for pics). Any secondhand one is likely to be as brittle as your existing one, so a new replacement is your best option. They do crop up on ebay but at much the same price a a new one from a Mitsy dealer.
