Last weekend i bought a set of alloy rims for the Deli from 'that site'. I didn't pay much for them, and i wasn't sure they would fit as they are off a jeep.
They seem to stick out a bit more than standard alloys whilst having the same size tyre. The thought was i could use the tyres i bought in may on these rims.

After polishing two of the wheels i thought i would check they fit.
Guess what , the hole in the middle is too small . Shocked
Is it possible to have the centers milled out, without affecting the integrity of the wheel, and is it worth it.Is it likely to cost loads. Question
The hole in the centre is about 89 mm so i guess would need about 8 mm removing from the inside edge, giving a new hole size of 105 mm.

I could clean them up and sell them on.

Your thoughts would be much appreciated.

Dave

well if my thinking is right and the stud holes are correct, then it shouldnt
be harmfull to remove the exess from the centres try drwawing a planned cut circle and see how close you are getting to the stud holes but by the look of those wheels they seam to have enough meat thickness wise to take the loads :D thing is they are going to look real bling when polished :D

Did you buy these wheels as you likeed them or that you wanted alloys? The only reason i ask i have a set of five matching alloys with nearly new colway 75%/25% tyres fitted and they are taking up room, you are reasonably local to me as i am in Bristol and wondered if you would be interested and would like to make an offer. As with most second hand alloys they could do with being redressed....Just a thought...give me a shout or PM me and i can mail some pics if you like.

cheers Arctic Fox

Check to see if the manufacturer has a website, then see if they have those wheels in that design listed for a Delica. If so chances are that the wheel will be the same, just the hole is bigger, if that is the case and the stud pitch is identical then chances are they just make the hole bigger.

HOWEVER. I would think that removing the tyres, setting up on a mill, taking of the unwanted metal and refitting tyres, would be quite costly, millers round here (I live next door to a chap who reconditions Jag Engines) charge between £80 and £125 an hour (this was the last time I checked). Let's say it takes 2 hours of milling plus the tyres on/off, it's likely to be more trouble than it's worth.

The amount of metal between the edge of the center hole and the stud hole is going to be the same on all Delica Alloys, as the hole pitch is set and the center hole is set too, therefore the amount of metal is a fixed quantity. The only thing that would worry me is are the alloys thickness enough to carry off the mod, and is the stud hole "dish" the same as the Delcia Bolts? If not then there could be a problem there, damaging the seat when tightening down.

Just my $0.02c worth.

I'm in Engineering and I would say (looking at the photo's) that it was okay to have 10mm bored out the centre but 16mm I would want to have a look at them in the flesh first. If you want to go ahead take them down a local engineering company that has a large swing lathe and they could do the job in about an hour.

I guess you need to know if they will fit once milled. Is the offset correct and the holes in the right place? Would be a shame to mod them into scrap.

Thanks for the replies chaps,

A thought just occured Exclamation

The back wheels don't have the poky out hub in the centre.

I'll try them in the morning. At least that way it will confirm the stud paturn is right.

Still unsure

Dave.

Thanks again for the replies,

I put one on the back today and the studs all line up.

I noticed they have a recess on the back of the holes aswell as the fronts, and i don't think there's enough metal left to mod them. :?

I guess i'll sell them on.

I might have to save up my pennies and get something bigger altogether Laughing

Would get a price on doing the mod before chucking em out Dave Wink
Haven't seen too many of that pattern around for a long while, they will look nice mate

If the stud pattern is right (and it is )then you don't realy have a problem
you will have the exact same dimensions (studs to centre hole )no matter
what wheels you choose "hope i make sence" Laughing
