Hi Guys,
I think I may have the same problem.. my Delica starts fine but dies after a few minutes then takes a bunch of cranking to get started again (with CLOUDS of white smoke). She then runs fine.

Is there anyone near me who would be willing to undertake changing the seals.. too big a job for me.. I couldn't even understand the destructions.
Of course I would pay them, just cannot afford 350 quid.

I am midway Between Newbury and Wantage, willing to travel up to about 50 miles is there is another (technically minded) owner that will do the job.. or at least assist me trying to do it!

ukflyer@hotmail.com or phone 01488-639562

Cheers,
James

to identify the pump type you have to look on the sticker on the side of it, there is an 'MR****' or 'MZ****' or similar number then next to/under that is either a long row of numbers or several shorter rows of numbers(124-456-789, like this)(can't remember how many numbers now :? )

or just quote the number/s to your specialist and he should know Wink

Hi Cainey, sorry for delay in answering your Q`s but not had time to hit the pc for a few days, anyway here goes.
Q1- cyl 1 is on compression when "0" on timing case lines up with notch on front pulley and both camshaft lobes pointing upwards.
Q2 - the pump to flange are 12mm too but are actually nuts not bolts(I know,I got that wrong on the first post Rolling Eyes sorry).
Q3 - Yes there are 6 bolts to remove from the pump in total to get it out,4x12mm and 2x14mm spanner size.
Q4 - To hand bleed first pump the primer on top of your fuel filter to make sure you get the feed pipe correct then connect it,the other pipe next to it is the return, leave this disconnected until you get full flow of clean diesel and then connect it,give the primer a few more pumps just to make sure, leave the injector pipes off the injectors and turn the engine on the key until you see diesel being fired out of them, don`t let anyone put a finger under the end of the injector pipe as diesel is fired out of these at up to 3000 PSI and WILL break the skin, then connect your injector pipes and you should be able to start.
Q5 -The scribed line is quite fine so the pump and flange will need to be fairly clean, don`t use abrasives, you will wipe it off, with the pump sat in front of you and the drive gear to your left you will see the pump to flange nut, this part of the body that the stud goes through into the nut is where you will find the Line.
Hope this all makes sense and you can get your job done. Smile

Many thanks to everyone who has read and congratulated my posts on this,I am just glad that my info can be found useful. :D

Chiefie, the me or mr number is not the important one,the number you will be looking for will be summat like these:- 104741-3303 or 104641-3302.
Those are the two numbers that were relevant to my pump shenanigans as they are the model numbers. :D

i thought they were the same, until i phoned up our supplier asking about an exploded diagram for the bosch pump, when i quoted the number on the pump, he said it was a zexel, not bosch pump, but when the picture arrived on the fax, it said at the top bosch number *whatever* and zexel number *whatever* which confused me even more :?

after reading that article i was more confused that ever, not too difficult on a Sunday morning tho' Rolling Eyes

The Zexel pump is a Bosch design made under licence by Zexel, although they look identical there are subtle differences and some parts are interchangeable and some not :? .
I got this info from a pump specialist of about 35years.

i was told that all the mitsi pumps were bosch based, quite a while ago, this is why i was confused when i asked for the diagram.
