Hi there,
Just thought that I'd let anyone who is thinkning of using this route around Birmingham to expect to pay at least £7.00 for the privilage. This is over twice what it costs in a car or a 4x4 (eg my Range Rover).
Apparently, they decide what to charge you based on the height of the vehicle. The Delica is classed as a goods vehicle as far as I can see.

This adds almost £15.00 to my regular return journey from North Wales to London.

Cheers,
Booster

Height has alway influenced the M6 tolls...

see here http://www.m6toll.co.uk/pricing/

A vehicle over 1.3 m high at the first axle on 2 axles counts as a class 4 vehicle so £7.00 is the right toll

Never use it myself when I'm up that way, don't really approve of toll roads.

I always thought it was based on having windows in the back - seems to be the case on the severn bridge?
How can they class a people carrier as a commercial - criminal!

The trick is to use the cash auto booths, the one where you throw the cash in the hopper, wait till the guy in front has pulled off the sensors and then very very slowly creep into the booth, and stop just short of the hopper, sometime the sensors screw up or Can't tell that you are a van and puts you down as a car Shocked so far I have done it four times and got away with it Laughing and thats in a sign written VW T5 LWB Laughing
or just go up to one the staffed booths and tell them its not a van but a car! a big one at that :D show them the log book and prove it!
but then again £7.00 for the privilidge of not going thru Bham has to be worth it :D

Go to the unmanned toll and pull past the hopper as far as you can and throw the money in, this also confuses the system, my mate has done it every day for a month in an LDV van, this also worked for me in my Delica and my wifes Pajero.

my partner is Danish and when we go to visit his family,we take the overight ferry from Harwich to Esberj. Which takes us to jutland but his family live in Sealand a different island. There used to be a ferry for this route but, then they built a bridge it costs 250DKK to cross this bridge approx £25 nearly and thats each way.. tolls suck !

I use the Toll Road fequently- easy fix to beat the higher price is- as you approach the two sensor poles, brake hard, lowering the front end. The Delica is only a few mm off the height requirment (from middle of front axle to height of boonet at this line)- this always works for me! It helps if you switch off the ECS (if you have it)

They tried to charge me £9 on Sunday.

I argued that the Deli is a car, not a commercial vehicle, but they wouldn't play.

I ended up speaking to a supervisor who lifted the barrier and warned me that I would be driving through a red light if I proceeded without paying the £9. I told him I was willing to pay £4.50 for a car but not £9 and proceeded when he said he couldn't acccept this.

Waiting to see if I hear anything...

I totally agree with fredt.

If its okay on the Log Book from DVLA then we shouldnt pay anymore. Lets get a CONVOY of all delis and go through the toll and all argue!

Amazing how a post originally put up close on four years ago can still attract interest.

If they haven't changed their notices by now I doubt they will!  Wink

That's exactly what I thought when I used it last June and I'm pretty sure I paid 8 quid not 7.

Its judged on the height of the bonnet at the point directly over the front wheel. I tried just sitting there blocking the lane and arguing with the supervisor, they just left me there and opened another lane, after 20 minuites I gave up and paid.
