Dear all,

Hello! I am a new member here. Nice to meet you.
My Delica have a problem on gasket head blown. Do you think it can be fixed by own or find mechanic for help?
If so how much does it cost is reasonable?

Cheers

Hi, and sorry not to see this earlier. Changing the head/gasket should be no more difficult than any other OHC engine, but if it is currently correctly timed, it is important to mark all the timed gears and engine front accurately with Tippex or similar to make reassembly easier. You may prefer to fit new timing belts, but marking all the gear positions will make life easier. Note that there are balance shaft locking holes on each side of the engine (one for each shaft) - I think you need a 5mm or 6mm diameter rod for each with the engine set at TDC. As a cracked head is also a possibility, it is worth getting it pressure tested by a specialist, once removed, or you may find replacing the gasket is a complete waste of time. Ask a Mitsubishi specialist mechanic what he would charge to replace the head gasket on a L200 pickup, - the engines are basically the same 4D56 diesel, or he may have done the same job on the L300 2WD van. I'd expect to pay £400-500, ie a day's work.
