start with the front door pins take them out and check the connection to the door pin it sounds like one as come off and is shorting out on the body or a door pin switch wire is damaged and shorting out

Just a thought but I remember mine doing a similar thing from time to time, when I used to open the tail gate the lights would not come on, it only happened now and again and cured itself.  I think it uses a different method to the doors for sensing when its open, if you have tested the switches for the doors try finding the sensor on the tail gate and have a look at that.

There is a pin on the sliding door to the rear of it by the slide rail, as for the tail gate i think you would need to remove the trim on the inside, there may be a switch on the lock mechanism itself inside the door.

hi its not pins honest so how does it work ,i know i fried a sensor as i was playing with the speedo and getting the plug pins out further so they touched the cuircuit board and my dash lights then worked but i shorted the plug that goes to the door open bulb for 1 sec with a pin and i then had this light on permanantly.

so i caused it but i don't know how it works as in sensor relay i haven't got a wiring diagram so I'm buggered unless somebody knows how it works lol.

I had this same problem, and still do occasionally!

It turned out to be the rear tailgate that was not closed enough. There is a sensor somewhere possibly in the tailgate switch that senses if the door is not fully closed.

To either side of the tailgate there is an adjuster, similar to the ones on the front bonnet panel, which screw in or out.

If they are to far out they make the tailgate bounce back, instead of closing. If too far in they allow the door to move and the sensor thinks the door is open.

Try adjusting that and see if it helps!

I'd also go with the rear door, the switch is integral with the door lock and can cause the open door light and interior light to stay on.

Cheers

Hi Webhead.
The 2WD 2.5 L400 (same as mine) has the same body as the 4x4 version and the electrics are the same (apart from the gearbox sensors???)

I used to have the same problem but after adjusting the rubber stops (shown in Lewis's post) It has stopped!
The boot has to be pushed right down before the lights go out.
Do the little red lights on your doors go out with all the doors closed??? it may be a fault else where?????/

HTH.    Ric.

Mine is doing this now too.. means I can't set the alarm.  I'll start with the back door.

Presumably the little red light on the dash won't flatten the battery over the course of a weekend?

Hi Shogun.

Had the same thing happening last week. Drove me mad.

Checked everything to no avail.

Turned out that the seatbelt was folded into the sliding door.  It didn't stop it opening or closing properly, it must just have defeated a sensor.

Check it out.  Could save a whole lot of dismantling and mantling again.
