Have always been meaning to fit one of these, but have just done it on my L300. Took about an hour.
Very easy solution - get one of these 75mm stainless sensors....
Search on ebay for
Stainless Steel Vertical Water Level Sensor Switch Float Switches Range of Sizes
Drill a 10mm securing hole in the top of the header tank (Very easy on the L300, as you can take tank out in two minutes).
Ensure there is clearance inside for the sensor body to move (on the L300 it needs to be very close to the filler hole).
Now the clever bit
Just connect the two sensor wires directly across the two wires to the fuel filter water sensor (bullet plugs are best so you can get things apart easily).
The dash light for "water in fuel" now doubles as a water level warning.
Simple and effective.
The 75mm sensor is perfect length for a L300 - but may need to be longer, (100mm?) for a L400 but you can buy them in any length. |

I just check mine on a regular basis and don’t have any problems. _________________ Ian.

Ian,
During the hot weather, I had a problem with my tank emptying after a few long (three mile) full power hills, and didn't know till I checked a week later.
(Should add it's a motorhome on a truck cab, so weighs 2.5 tons all the time!!).
Cooling system is all fine and it's only done 30k miles from new... |

Definitely a useful addition for most L400s with their known expansion tank weakness. I doubt if my L300 uses more than one pint/year, and the temperature gauge gives me warning of overheating - if it moves off the bottom, - STOP! _________________ Andy C L300 Super Exceed - over 100 smiles per gallon! |

That’s the definitive way of keeping an eye on the cooling on an L300! _________________ Ian.
