It's not a safety item, just needs to be gas tight and we'll secured. What could go wrong? 😜

The hardest bit (if it's rotten) will be getting the down-tube off the turbo down to the 3-bolt flange right. After that, you just have to fit a silencer and get to the end! If your welding is anything like mine, for something that needs to be gas tight and "clean", I'd get the bits correctly aligned in situ, tack them into place, and then get a competent (sorry!) welder to complete the job.

Ha ha no apologies necessary Andy, I know what you mean Smile

I'm going to give it a go and see what gives. My thinking is that if it's not gas tight, I'll know soon enough (at MOT time at the latest,  Wink ), but I intend to give it a good go. I need some practice anyway for when I get round to sorting out the tinworm at the front step! What better to practice on than something that needs to be gas tight, bahaha  Mr. Green

Not planning to "make" anything to do with the downpipe bit from the turbo; what's there has surface rust at worst, so planning to use what's there down to the point past the first bend (where it's essentially horizontal), chop it there, weld a generic silencer in, then a 45 degree (ish) bend straight from there to the rear end of the sill, as exhaust pipe. That way, my thinking is, it's literally pretty much two straight bits with a 45 degree bend. Or so I tell myself  Laughing

Worst comes to worst I'll just have to find the correct aftermarket full length set up again, by the looks of things there may still be some options for it.

Not an exact answer to your question, but, I'm going to a powerflow place this Friday with my nearly new, only 20 year old L400

From having custom stainless made before on other vehicles, its worth doing, if your keeping.

I'll report back if they attempt to rip me off!

I'm guessing twice the price of an ebay or milner.? But peace of mind for a while.

£495.  Sad

Ouch. Times have changed.

I'll shop around a bit more I think.

Hi! Yikes indeed. Well, to be honest, from my perspective it's certainly interesting to hear that - the Falkirk place was about the same ballpark.
Let me know if you do get any more quotes, I'd be interested to hear.

I am really wishing I had spent £1300  of my redundancy on a tig welder now! Instead of a scaffold tower.  Sad
