Does anyone know the correct tolerance for the Air Con Compressor Clutch Clearance / Air Gap, for a 2003 Chamonix dual zone Delica L400 V6 3.0L S2 PD6W / 6G72 with the 4pk 990 multi vee belt.

I recently dismantled the clutch to replace the failing bearing  -NSK 40BD5524AT1XDDUM01 40x55x24mm sealed double row bearing - (the seals of which read 40BD5524ADUM when they haven't had a melt down).
The gap was 0.25mm / 10 thou " before dismantling, apart from replacing the bearing which was OEM peened in (carefully ground out the 12 peenings), I'm dressing the friction surfaces up a little as they seemed to have picked up some cold weld metal materials. I would like to know the right tolerance as its a bit of an awkward one to replace from under the belly of the beast (without dropping engine coolant, de-gassing and removing the compressor etc and then replace the same) and don't want to redo the job or have any more damage to components as the clutch / compressor seems to be difficult and or expensive to replace, and I don't like throwing anything that can't be fixed.

I would say also if anyone attempts the job a good lamp, mirror, and ratcheting 90' type pair of circlip pliers are required, and can be accessed from underneath after removing the front two belly pans - with some patience and dexterity of digits as its mainly a one handed job. Though in hindsight the end nut (12 or 14mm AF) isn't tight but requires something to gently grip the 110mm 4.3/8" dia clutch end disc (/compressor shaft) from rotating, maybe v-large pipe pliers or strap wrench and although awkward the end plate should be carefully pulled off its spline, the 40mm external circlip (2mm eyes) behind removed easier said, then the pulley will be eased best with very careful even levering on opposite sides again easier said than done and could have a softer landing in your face rather than the floor.

Thanks to All in :

A: Anticipation.
B: the past with great help and advice for one and all.

Hi Baz, sounds like a ball-ache of a job, especially if you have already had the compressor off for the original fix and had it re-gassed. I wouldn't have the technical know-how to do what you're doing; I would simply obtain a known good compressor, then get the system professionally degassed (refrigerant is retrieved and recycled), fit the replacement, then return to the specialist to get it re-gassed. Not cheap, perhaps, but might save your sanity! (Perhaps I'm just lazy!)
