Some weeks ago the fuel gauge on our Delica L300 P25T (1996) camper-van started swinging erratically. Took it in to garage. To cut a long story shorter they eventually removed the petrol tank and fashioned a replacement float/sender, and re-assembled. That seemed to work.
But on our next trip - after a few miles - with a full tank the gauge started moving slowly towards empty and back. Once the tank got down to about half-full it became steadier.
Took vehicle back to garage but – off course -  when they took it out for a test run everything worked fine. They assured me that on a vehicle this age the movement of the gauge would reflect the movement of the float in the tank, but that I could be assured that when I started up the vehicle, the correct level of fuel would be indicated on the gauge.  I can live with that, as long as I reset the trip odometer after filling the tank – I know I get more than 300 miles on a full tank and hence can judge when I need to refill.
Then – last week on another camping trip - I noticed that the fuel gauge and the temperature gauge seemed to move in tandem … when the temperature gauge was not registering, neither was the fuel gauge. When the temperature gauge ‘came back to life’, so did the fuel gauge.
I phoned the garage in the hope that this might be a symptom that they could address – a way forward. Afraid they were unimpressed: ‘Yes – that is what we figured with a vehicle of that period. There is a coil back there which sends a variable pulse – hence the movement.' (Or at least that is what I understood him to be saying - basically it was my clear impression that they did not want anything more to do with my fuel gauge and that I should live with it.
Can anyone advise ?

The L300 float has a coil which acts as a variable resistance and alters the indication on the guage as the fuel goes down.
There is no direct connection to the temp sensor.
The only other thing that would affect the readings of both is the voltage delivered to the float/sensor.
If you have a steady correct voltage at both there should be no problem.
Check all connections are clean and tight.

To me, that appears to be a fault in/on the "Dash board" circuit/s, or the plug.
