Why not just park up across from the Tan Hill Inn and stay there!  Laughing

It's a public road, so no camping fee's.  Wink

There's also a small, well offroad, parking area.

Lewis, Last couple of times I went up there in the summer, that little area was full of campers, so wouldn't want to risk it. We were very fortunate with weather on the day we all met up there, it's no coincidence that Everest made their double glazing advert there!
Deker, what nights are you booking? Just mention my name, so we don't get pitches at opposite ends of the site! (unless you want to!) Very Happy Also let me know if you want to book a table/meal at the pub (Mason's Arms).

okay, so Deker, Ian (Fostlongstrider) and I are booked in at AlanHolme site for Monday and Tuesday nights. If anyone wants to join us, you'd be welcome, but you'll need to phone and book sharpish, as pitches are disappearing fast. And the pub will only be open for drink, but there are plenty of other eating (and drinking!) options in Appleby 2.5 miles away.

Just started going back into work this week after months of work from home, and it's a little too far from Devon so I won't be able to join you for Delica and Beers.

Maybe the AO end of summer will be up and running.....

Great couple of days in the Lakes with Andyman, Deker and Dub, did a Grand Tour on Tuesday and managed to not try to invade Seelafield.
Also with Andyman sorted squealing fan belts and rough power steering.
Campsite was a tad expensive and we didn't spend much time there.
Had good food at the Ratty Man in Ravensglass and a photo op on the beach.
All in all a good few days.

Thanks for coming guys, - a long way to come, especially for Deker for what turned out to be really one evening of chatting at the campsite, and one VERY full day of good weather and some tremendous Lakeland scenery and testing roads and tracks, some of which I had never been on before.
Despite the original intention of exploring the North Pennines/Eden valley, once we had started going west, there was no going back, at least, not until late in the evening. The area around Ravenglass again proved to be an oasis of un-crowded and friendly calm, with excellent value and quick service of excellent food at the Ratty Man, and we also managed to dodge the worst of the central Lakeland crowds. The only real black cloud on the day, was the one issuing from Ian's exhaust - which turned out to be nothing worse than a detatched pipe to the boost gauge!
Dub/Piers' inclusion freshened up the chat with tales of rock and roll on the road, complete with impressive accompaniment on his guitar, so a warm welcome from us old-timers to our small, and not - necessarily - representative corner of the Deli fraternity! I hope we'll see you again soon.

Cruumbs Mate!   Shocked

There's a heck of a difference in travelling time between Appleby and Ravenglass, to what there is between Appleby and the Eden Valley!

Lewis - wrong Eden Valley! I didn't even know there was one in Derbyshire! The River Eden (Cumbria) rises in the Mallerstang Valley above Kirkby Stephen, runs North to Carlisle, and decants into the Solway Firth. Relatively unknown because of its more dramatic and popular sister to the west, it has a lot to offer the explorer who likes to enjoy quiet country lanes and uplands without the tourist crowds of the Lakes, Dales and Peak district.

Also Lewis - Ravenglass is a good way North of Barrow, although with some of Deker's navigating, we could have ended up where you've placed it! Smile  Wink

With Deker's navigation we could have tried a second invasion of Sellafield!!

That is why I pulled us all over at Drigg, and waited for him to realise that we weren't following him! Not sure how often you can get away with the excuse "We were just following his sat-nav!"
