Hi,

I have searched the forum but can not find the right answer. I have a series 1 early 1994 L400 and the back tailgate is jammed shut. I hear this is a common problem, so I followed advice, squirted WD40 everywhere, left it, hit is around that area with my fist, I've done this 3 times now. The handle was loose with no resistance but now it has a little, but the door is jammed.

I would take the back panel off but I can not see where to do this. The only screw is the cord to pull the door shut. There are no other screws anywhere, hidden or otherwise.

Please help, as I am a bit stuck now. Also can someone tell me which way the key turns to lock the back door, as I have no idea now! I am guessing to the left? Many thanks in advance!

The strap bolt is the only mechanical fixing, the rest are panel popper clips.

This happened to me too, I opened it by asking my son to squeeze the open handle from the outside whilst I pushed it from the inside the truck, I never needed to fix anything as it didn’t do it again.

As Yoza said, simple poppers all round, with four main ones in each corner.

There is no need to fully remove the panel, you just need to be able to get at a single upright rod, in the centre of the door.

Undo the bolt holding the pull strap in place
Remove the corner lamp cluster access panels, then work your way inwards, then downwards.

Once undone enough to see a single upright rod in the centre of the door, just pull it up to release the catch.
