i will start from the start, my bus has been sat up for a while, I've just stripped the engine down and done the guides ect. before i sat the bus up, i had issues with the overdrive not working.

first of all the switch on the stalk went, but i push it in and hold it in with a match and it lights up the o/d light.
not sure if its related, but it doesn't go into overdrive.
so does anyone have a picture of the overdrive solenoid and its location on the gearbox.
and also what else is worth checking, I'm hoping its just plug conections.

its on a 1994 2.8td auto.

thanks

Is the speedo working  Question  Quite common for the speed sensor on the gearbox to fail.

Also the TPS.

Both items can prevent the O/D working.

speedo all okay, is the tps on the fuel pump ? i will check the wiring on this also and find the info on testing it. i was thinking it might be the solenoid, as i always used the o/d. never needed to take it out, then the switch went. so wondered as it was always open and then the switch went, it closed and has failed to reopen ? i think i might have found the solenoid, is it on the n/s of the gearbox, two bolts and facing upwards ?

The OD solenoid is on the left side of the gearbox, behind the front propshaft.

The inhibitor switch is on the right side.

thanks lewis.
then next thing, on the inhibitor switch. the connection is full of white grease. is this normal ?
and once i remove the o/d soleniod. how do you test it as it looks like just one wire ? I've not removed yet so i could be wrong.

Hello
I didn't want to start new thread so hope you don't mind me piggybacking on this one as it is related.

The overdrive button is stuck. Is it something that should free off with a bit of wd40 and a little pokey stick to free it off, or is it indicative of something more serious?
