Hi there, Delica Star Wagon L300. Having problems on start up. battery tested and good. engine turns over well but slow start up, which then drains battery to slow turn over. Very smokey when started. have a bypass push switch to glow plugs busbar. Tested all of this and all good. can anyone help cheers Tim

Worn or sticky injectors? Leaky valve stems? How many miles has it done? Try some diesel system cleaner in your tank, or fill the filter bowl with ATF, replace, and run it through your pump and engine, - should clean any crud off, but if the injectors are worn or burnt, you may need them refurbished or renewed. Have you checked your battery output? If it is a bit tired, you won't get full heat, especially while cranking. Sometimes, running the preheat cycle twice before cranking helps.

Prob silly question but from your post I wasn't sure - have you tested the glow plugs themselves? Each should give a very good "glow" for a few seconds when hit with 12v for a second or so.
Also, what "pre" glow system do you have; 12v or 6v (difference should be visible by counting the number of relays under your drivers' seat).

Another silly Q; when you said your battery was "tested and good" - do you mean it measures 12+ v before starting? Or have you used a more comprehensive test of some sort?

I only ask because mine had what seemed to be a fine battery for many years, but when I eventually bit the bullet and replaced it with a (fairly expensive) new one (plus brand new - correct for the glow system - glow plugs) it has started fine ever since...

+1 for glow plugs not firing in all cylinders but also worth checking no air leaks in fuel pipes to pump / IP pump angles good (tiny bit out and will billow white smoke) and timing belt sprocket makers are all lined up eg belt not skipped or need tensioning
