the L400 engine bay is already quite crowded

also the engine is relatively basic compared to modern diesel engines

my question is

has anyone fitted a second fuel filter ?

and any suggestions / comments

Not done it, but quite a few have, as, especially on the L400, the standard fuel filter is difficult to access and change, and often priming/air ingress can be a problem after changing/ re-fitting. As you may be using fuel of unknown purity/cleanliness, I reckon a filter fitted before the  standard filter in an easily accessible and viewable place is a good idea, but you might need to extend the pipework. Oil C/H filters are small, even better with a clear bowl.
