the L400 is quite crowded
has anyone added a bypass filter ?

Not sure why you would need to - just take an oil change kit with you, including your favourite oil! An oil cooler might be worth considering in middle eastern climates, but make sure it can't get punctured by flying stones etc! If you can get to AO at Stratford, end of September, there are usually a lot of heavy-duty adventurers there who can advise better than me! A snorkel will lift your air intake above much of the road dust produced off-roading in arid regions.
