The pressure plate is the expensive bit, but it is sometimes possible to have it skimmed depending on its condition, some companies do it while you wait in an hour - £60ish.
google ' skimming a pressure plate ' for someone near you. _________________ Artificial intelligence is no match for natural stupidity.... |

Thanks yoza, the clutch is new, but the flywheel is broken (springs all rattling around in side)
Calling anyone who can track down a flywheel for a manual?!?!? Urgently |

Eh I thought the flywheel was a solid lump of metal with a gear ring of teeth for the starter to turn it over and the clutch plate had the springs fitted I side it _________________ 2nd gear low and go go go!

See my explamarion, I believe I broke it reversing and sharp turning up too high an incline for the flywheel (DMF). Lots of amoke and burning and I think slipping too at the time.
I broke it
It does happen, not that uncommon from what I've now read , and a place rebuilds them for a few hundred pounds, does anyone think that wouks be a better option than getting 2nd hand?
Anyone know how to get one though? As I can't find one. |

Probably because the planetary gear has had a catastrophic failure - fell apart, and that would explain the jumping and grinding you experienced.
I think if you get your old one reverse-engineered to a solid flywheel you would be good to go, but it's expensive.
If it was me I would buy one from a breaker, but manuals are rare compared to autos, so you maybe out of luck. _________________ Artificial intelligence is no match for natural stupidity.... |

Yeah, thanks Yoza.
Its under £300 for a reverse engineer to a solid.
My best discovery so far is that its the same part as a Pajero! |

Remember there are 2.5, 3.2, mivtec, V6 and others, were the flywheel is different to your manual 2.8 4m40, also to confuse matters more people are advertising Delica 4m40 flywheels that are for an auto and completely different to manual derivatives. _________________ Artificial intelligence is no match for natural stupidity.... |

Yes, I've discovered this when I've pursued postings on line that claim to have the necessary part!!! Its so frustrating.
Thanks though so much, I will make sure to check this, and if the worst comes to the worst i can get mine fused as it were.
Not cheap,but necessary possibly.
Whats the deal with a fused one? Will it be as seemless as using a dmf when it won't have all that 'buffering' post-fuse |

I don't think you will notice any differance, although the idea behind the DMF was to eliminate vibration and soften power transfer from the engine to the drive train.
Excellent idea on paper.
But a nightmare for anyone with an older car that is fitted with one, it is common for them to fail and eat themselves, as you will see if you google 'DMF failure' warning smoke will start to pour out of your computer as there are so many posts.... _________________ Artificial intelligence is no match for natural stupidity.... |

Thanks for further comments Yoza, and yes, I certainly have now learnt the deal with dmf!
I hadn't really put mine under that great strain before that fateful weekend, but I am now aware of many similar stories, especially when it comss to regularly towing. Gosh, ignorance is bliss couldn't have been truer when I've towed others out of trouble up some very steep hills (not realising the potential risk I was taking). I've just remembered that now
So, can anyone find something?!
Car currently languishing in bits awaiting a fix. |

Sounds the best option to me. Then you will not have the same problem in the future
Alternatively - If you do get another flywheel, could I have your old one please.
(want to see what is involved to reverse engineer to a solid flywheel)

The dmf is welded and precision balanced, Deker.
Which is what I'm looking at having done, or finding a conversionand clutch kit.
Thanks Yoza! Really appreciate you having a mooch. |

Does anyone have the part number though?
I have searched the site for it, quite determinedly, and can't find any reference to it.
I really thought there was a parts list somewhere for lots of stuff on here, but I must've been mistaken. |

If you think you could precisin engineer these flywheels you could be onto something there Deker, as if there aren't replacements out there any more you'll be in demand!
Btw, are there actually less than 200 odd of us on here that actually have roadworthy taxed delis running now? |
