This is what I found puzzling when I noticed the belt was missing, I have had the aircon on and blowing fine numerous times and it was clearing the windows/heating up fine prior to noticing there was no belt until I went to check some things today. I was surprised the aircon worked at all without a belt.

The aircon cannot work without a belt turning the aircon pump. If the pump does not turn then it cannot send the aircon fluid around the system.

If you haven't noticed it missing before now it may have recently snapped and dropped off whilst out driving.

Also, stripyone, you say it had no problem heating and clearing the windows. Working aircon would not provide heat, apart from using some of the same vents, the heater and aircon are different. The aircon puts chilled air only into the system. Have you checked that the compressor pulley rotates? They can seize up with lack of use.
