|
|
Help!
Please could anyone here tell me the spec for the retaining nut for the power steering pressure hose? The one that holds the banjo connection onto the P/S pump?
Don't ask...
Let's just say I need to replace the nut, and although it *looks* like an M12, the thread appears to be different and I really do not want to damage it...
Thank you!

Thanks, NIk.
I don't think it's in there... as far as I'm aware anyway.
These manuals tend to contain the info needed by normal people, like torque specs, etc. Not info needed for nutters who are stupid enough to lose their nuts... fnarrr... _________________ 1992 L300 Exceed "Selma" |

Those are the torque specs, not the sizes for the nut... but thanks. _________________ 1992 L300 Exceed "Selma" |

Dude, don't apologise! I appreciate the help... I really do. There's so much in those manuals that it is very likely I've missed something... so a second pair of eyes are much appreciated. :D _________________ 1992 L300 Exceed "Selma" |

The part umber is MF430727 and all it says in the parts order specs is:-
1 48989 MF430727 01 NUT,P/S OIL LINE JAM,12
I suspect it is probably a M12 1.25 TPI thread.
Now this may sound daft but your wheel nuts are M12 1.5 TPI, so see if one easily fits over the thread, but take care not to force it, as that will damage it. If or not it easily fits will help determine if it is 1.5 or 1.25 TPI.

Thanks Lewis
That's a good point, and I had already tried a wheel nut! It sure doesn't fit, although it sort of seems to bite onto the top but then get impossible to further tighten.
Like you say, I suspect its a super fine thread. I've ordered a couple of 1.25 pitch M12's from the interwebs, FINGERS CROSSED.
Because if that doesn't do it, I might end up having to order the OEM version from Mitsi... _________________ 1992 L300 Exceed "Selma" |

Hi Jejoenje,
Would it be possible to take your power steering pump to a hydraulic hose maker and find
out if it is a hydraulic thread, which are normally finer than normal bolt threads, might be worth a try.
Cheers Chris & Chris. |

Hi jejoenje
If you really get stuck on this, I may be able to make a nut for you.
This would, of course mean that you have to post the original nut to me.
If you do need me to help, best to call me. My No. can be found in the member2member services.

THANK YOU Mr Dr!
I'll bear that in mind.
Unfortunate thing is, the nut has gone AWOL! If I could only find it, there would not be an issue... _________________ 1992 L300 Exceed "Selma" |

Thanks Mr B!
That's a good idea, when I get REALLY stuck.
Are hydraulic threads normally different again from the 1.75/1.5/1.25 pitch patterns?
I'm really hoping that a 1.25 pitch nut is going to do the trick - hopefully I'll know after the postman's been tomorrow. _________________ 1992 L300 Exceed "Selma" |

You, sir, are a wizard. Thank you! I pride myself on my Googling generally, but I totally couldn't find this one.
As luck will have it, the postman arrived this morning with a baggie full of M12 1.25 pitch nuts, and I am happy to report they fit! So my steering rack pressure pipe is back on the pump...
Now we'll just have to wait and see whether my repair of set pipe (rusted through at the bend at the bottom) is going to hold! _________________ 1992 L300 Exceed "Selma" |
