Looks like a fuel-pump symbol. Does it open the flap? |

Its the round toggle I am looking at, the bottom one is the fuel fall as standard. The toggle tursn slightly but does not pull out or push in, unless I am doing something wrong.
It is on a L400 Field Edition SE V6. |

Should be able to twist it, pull it out to desired setting then twist it back to lock it into place |

On my L300, it is easier to raise revs to the required level with the pedal, then pull out that knob to match it, then twist to lock it. It is quite hard to just pull it without your foot on the pedal. _________________ Andy C L300 Super Exceed - over 100 smiles per gallon! |

On my Chamonix, if you pull that, it opens or closes a shutter under the bonnet. Still don't know what use it is. The hand throttle is on the other side of the steering column. I tried to upload an image but failed miserably |

You are right, it opens the fresh air inlet in the bonnet vent. _________________ Andy C L300 Super Exceed - over 100 smiles per gallon! |

So opening the fresh air inlet in the bonnet vent provides more oxygen and increase idle revs? I have had my van (3.0L petrol auto) die on me when breaking to a stop and fairly cold the last day or two. Does this mean I should pull it out a little?
I have tried pulling it out/pushing it back in when in neutral and don't see the revs change... |

No. It provides more air, Oxygen is only 18'ish % of the atmosphere. _________________

The air intake vent above the battery, which the bonnet scoop directs air to, which on the other side of the bulkhead feeds into the heating system air fan (white item):-

okay - so since it feeds into the heating system air fan opening it will feed more outside/cooler air into the AC/heating system then? Sorry if I am being a bit slow. _________________ I'm a Delica newbie - please bear with me ;) |

Fresh air - from above the bonnet, as opposed to warm and possibly fumey air that has passed through the engine bay? It has nothing to do with engine performance, simply the ambience in the cabin. Most modern cars have a button or two for fresh air or recycled air to the a/c and heater. In cold weather, it may help prevent steamy windows! _________________ Andy C L300 Super Exceed - over 100 smiles per gallon! |
