Nout! But we don't need to travel 350 - 450 miles for a meet! 'Twould be nice to meet some of our Southern Brothers.

So, I get this welcome in to the forum from Deker on the basis that he is thinking of a meet spot 'near me'.

Come onto the thread and find he is suggesting a place called Woodbury Common.

Gents, do not be fooled. Deker undoubtedly has his own agenda here.

He fails to mention that for most innocents, the railway line between Exeter & Exmouth actually ends half way.

It slips his memory that the beautiful views of the common are normally spoiled by herds of sweating Nods, accompanied by screaming in the sort of language that would make a stoker blush.

He failed to mention the subterranean features of the area - known as 'smarty tubes' or the amazing cooling effects of a gentle trudge through 'Peters Pool'.

That the area is famous in bacteriological studies as having it's very own varient of a flesh eating infection - known locally as the 'Woodbury Rash'.

That the gorgeous view across the river Exe towards Ken, will actually lose its appeal when viewed from a 'front support' position thirty yards out in the mud.

In short - it was a good thing I dropped by, in time to offer a couple of well considered words of advice:

ANYWHERE - but NOT bloody Woodbury common! Smile

Sounds like the favoured revised venue of Burnbake, on Purbeck, is a good idea, although if you check out the post in detail, you will find several camp sites proposed, - you may know them, or even know some better ones? Any positive recommendations welcomed, are you up for a meet early August, Ian?

You forgot to mention the Crocodile pit, though I greatly doubt Deker was even vaguely contemplating taking on that challenge. Laughing

Yes & Yes!

Certainly I can make recommendations - but what are we looking for?

Is the average Deli owner interested in wild camping/farmers field - or do we need a formal site with shower blocks, toilets, dish-washing ..... and swimming pool?

Bear in mind that August is peak season down in the SW - kids out from school and massive occupancy on both formal camping and caravanning sites.

How many rigs would we realistically expect to turn-up, based on previous meets? Having never attended a Deli Bash, what activities are normally run alongside the event?

Would folks want the option of taking their Rigs out for a gentle tour of the area - Somerset, Dorset and Devon have some lovely tours - offering the chance of a convoy run through gorgeous country-side with many scenic locations.

Personally, I am a member of what used to be known as The Caravan Club and often drag a van to country shows. Now, re-branded as the Caravan & Motor-Caravan Club - they have access to literally thousands of sites, some of which are open to non-members. They offer Certified Locations - sites which hold no more than five units and have basic (water and elsan) facilities - but giving easy access to the whole country at reasonable cost.

July is out for me - but only because I will be at the Game Fair towards the end of the month.  Search  thegamefair if you have not heard of the event.

Now, coinciding the meet with another event may be a consideration. In as much as they have a huge campsite (allowing a herd of Delis to park adjacent to each other) with all facilities, BUT adjacent is also a massive variety of things to see and do. It is a celebration of all things countryside. Shooting, fishing, dogs, 4WD & offroad.

Is this an idea, or do we prefer to keep things simple, focused.....and cheap? Smile Your call............

Ian.
I live 200 miles from Woodbury Common, the fact that I know the place should be a bit surprising. Not its history and downfalls.
I've only been there once, it seems to be a pleasant place.

You say "the railway line between Exeter & Exmouth actually ends half way. "
Halfway where  Question  I've used the railway a few times twixt Lympstone & Exmouth, it goes to Exmouth.
My wife (RIP) travelled Lympstone to Exeter on same railway.

I used the title as a starting point, for those who live "local" to the area could/would suggest something better.

So, please enter your suggestion/s as to what may be better - Burnbank camping site has been put forward by others.
All suggestions are welcome  Smile

Regards

I would be up for coming along even though I don't yet have a Delica. What would I need to bring, what are the costs and where is it exactly?

I am guessing just normal tent and camping gear?

Try asking in the Common Room for owners local to you, to have a look at their Delica/s, and known problems.

Please go have a look for a nice campsite for us, you live "Local" to the Woodbury area. Then you will know the costs and where.
