Anyone had any experience with these units ? I know they are not known as best quality but they have been going a while. Loads of features etc. I'm in need of a new stereo and the 1 I'm looking at has the reversing camera option which would save me buying a special mirror.. A few bad reviews online but any good ones out there ???

I have the older first version TD605G, which was in my Deli when I got it. I don't have a manual for it, so keep finding new things as I go along, however it is fairly basic. I did buy one from the manufacturer, but what turned up was quite useless, with no instructions in it.  Rolling Eyes

I like using it although the maps / speed cameras are not up to date. However my TomTom has lifetime maps and speed camera, plus RDS routing round congestion and accidents.

The Bluetooth connection for a mobile phone works okay, but the onscreen display only shows the incoming phone number, not the contact name, so you still need to have the phone where you can see who is calling. Likewise use the phone to make an outgoing call then let the Xtrons take over the hands free talking.

I also have a hard wired reversing camera in which is really good, especially with the distance markers on the screen. I have also angled it so I can see where the towball is.

The radio is not the best, as it keeps losing its station, but then I don't listen to the radio anyway.

It takes an 8GB SD card for MP3's and is fairly easy to navigate between different folders of music. The screen display shows the title and artist. Sound quality is of course dependent on what speakers and amp you have fitted, though mine sounds good without an extra amp. Forgunately mine was also fitted with a decent set by the previous owner.

Unfortunately mine has developed the resident Xtrons issue of the MP3 player going duff. The screen just started showing a green screen and not recognising the SD card. I drove al the way to the Xtrons place in Leeds and basically they just said I needed to go on the forum for some help, even though the forum teccie was based in the building.  The forum is not the best and it took days to get a reply, which just said contact the supplier.  I eventually found another post that said to disconnect it then reconnect it. Now it just advises the SD card has no music tracks on it. It says the same for any SD card I put in.

I am however considering having a newer model Xtrons fitted, after looking at what the other makes were. Plus fitting is a forward looking camera to watch for things, below the bonnet line, when parking up.

Thanks Lewis. I'm very torn with trying 1 as they are so cheap compared to the others on offer with similar specs. I've heard a few issues with older models but as I said before - they have been going a while and offering new models, so Hopefully getting it together .. The Gps bit interests me , but , I have it on my "now" 4 year old Sony xperia phone with gps on if I need it. The new Xtrons say they will work with android but who knows..

That's good info.

Thanks  Smile

If I get brave and buy 1, Ill stick it on here...

I find having the map zoomed out a bit on the large display a good back up to the TomTom.

It updates very quickly and the touch screen is quick to react.  If I come up on an accident or roadworks it gives me the chance to quickly see if there is a way round using side streets, without ending up down a cul-de-sac.

Last year I was the last car in a group coming home from a week on the Norfolk Broads. The was a lot of road works, with one way escorted travel and ended up a long way behind the rest. My Tom Tom was not advising of any alternative routes. Then I made a decision to cut west across country a fair way, then north to catch up. I didn't see any of the others, but arrived home an hour before the rest.  :D

I'm looking at this unit http://xtrons.co.uk/6-95-hd-digital-touch-screen-1080p-video-double-din-car-dvd-player-with-screen-mirroring-function.html

For a bit cheaper though !

The bonnet cam bit looks handy that you mentioned.

Will have a look at a few more yet. I have Halfords vouchers to use so I'm having a hard time at present  Rolling Eyes

I have reduced down to either the TD693G, TD699G or the TD714GT.

The 714GT apparently lets you remote control a front mounted 360 degree Digital Video recording camera from the dash unit.
Plus the screen winds back inside when the ignition turns off.

You can also have it use your phone contacts onscreen as they are on your phone.

I fitted a cheap, I think it was an Xtrons unit a long time back

It worked well enough, but you had to use the remote for some features. When the remote went faulty, the seller refused to replace it! (That's a long story!) So consequently the unit became useless. I ended up replacing it with an expensive Alpine unit which whilst expensive was a thousand times better in terms of sound quality and general build quality...

I expect they have improved a lot since mind...

That's the sort of thing I've read online but by the looks of it - they sell a lot and have done for quite some time now so hopefully they are getting better. ! On the auction you can buy a 3 year warranty from someone else and the units are generally cheaper on there so that might be an option

Still looking around a bit.  Rolling Eyes

Thanks for input chaps

Hi, I have a TD714GT purchased about a year ago and for the price am very happy with it; If I had spent any more on it then I think I would probably be a bit disappointed.

I find that the radio struggles to find a clear channel, but there again I haven't checked out why this is, possibly there is an issue with aerial wiring as the aerial itself is in good condition.

The reversing camera is great, I have it set up so that it shows the bumper so that I can see if I am about to hit anything; the downside with the Xtrons unit I find is that when I start the engine and go into reverse, it takes what seems a long time before the screen shows what is happening behind me.  I know the unit has to fire up, but it still seems a long wait, however once the unit is running, the camera shows what's behind near enough straight away; I was originally going to fit reversing sensors as well but now don't feel the need for them.

Blue tooth works well, I haven't used the phone to make calls very much on it, normally to play music from which again works fine though I don't think that it tells me what track is playing and I can't remember whether I can skip tracks on it or have to do that on my phone.  It is set up for apple products but I steer clear of those so don't know how good it is.

Playing music from a memory stick works, but again seemed a bit clunky, but I have only done that once and I possibly hadn't set everything up properly.

The sat nav it great; can't remember what was supplied with it but it is very easy to program, store locations and recall them etc. and it is an easy to follow screen (also a decent size); I have the sound turned off all the time so that it doesn't interfere with my music and am very happy with it.  One thing to remember with it is that you can put whatever sat nav system you want into it as the program is stored on an SD card.

It plays HD movies as well but again never tried this function.

I think the down side of it which bugs me the most is that interface screens on it are very very boring and basic to look at, but there again they do not affect the way it operates.

Overall though, I would say that it is very good value for the money.

Andy

Thanks for your input Andy. Still looking at different models,  but as normal,  found other projects to put the cash into! When I get something, I'll stick it on. Cheers.

The GPS card is extra in this One, the fixed screen ones as in this are best bet as mechanics fail ,
