Hi,
We (YD clubs) have been invited to have a club presence at JAE - Japanese Auto Extravaganza http://www.japcarclub.org/ on 10-13 September 2015
Basically, it is a big social meet of car clubs for Jap cars - the clubs have a stand, show their vehicles, and socialise.
There are trade stands and entertainments and there are various inter-club fun events as listed below :
- 5-A-Side Football – team event
JAE Go Karts – 2 person timed event
Tug of War – 8 man team event
Endurance – single entry timed event
Car Pull – single entry timed event
Joust – single person event
Bungee Run – single person event
Relay Race – 2 person team event
Food Eating – single person entry
Show and Shine
Pub Quiz (Kuiza)– 4 member team event
And, this year, their new site - Newark Showground has an off-road track, hence why we've been talking to the organisers!
They would like to see all the YD clubs - Pajero, Delica, Trooper, Land Cruiser, Suzuki attend.
I went to view the offroad track last week, along with another Pocuk club member Simon Hyde, who lives close by.
It is quite a small area, similar in size to the track that was at Abingdon, for those that remember - but no-where near the likes of Tong, Kirton, Frickley, Cowm, Drumclog etc etc
It is newbie friendly, and also has some "technical" sections more suited to experienced people, and there is a chance we can "modify" it a bit beforehand.
There is camping and entertainment on site, so it is literally a case of us turning up, and taking part, although, we will probably take a lead on running the 4WD track side of it. Costs to JAE are as here http://www.japcarclub.org/index.php/what-is-jae/entry-prices - basically, £35 a person, for 4 days, including camping.
They are still to get back to me about the insurance and liability cover for the track.
So, what do folks think, would you attend, for all the days, or just a couple - there are day entry prices as well, on the link above.
I think, this could be a good meet, with a lot of the infrastructure provided without a few of us having to sort this, and a chance for folks to have a go at offroad - even if they haven't before, with guidance from others, more experienced.
If I get a chance to modify the track beforehand, there will be some challenging areas, and we could potentially run some punch hunt type challenges on there.
It should be ideal for Newbies to test out their 4WD, ask questions and have a go, in a "safe non damaging" environment, with plenty of members on-hand - very similar to how Abingdon used to be .
Hopefully, as the Showground seem very keen for us to go, we'll also be able to provide a few more challenging obstacles on the course for the more experienced . - They have got a machine there, so it may be that a few of us go there a couple of days before and "modify"
Last 4WD track I built from just a field, with a couple of ditches, and made axle twisters, deep holes, side angles, mounds etc etc
Richie managed to get stuck - park here
and so did gareth
here's a couple of videos from the Landy event they did at Newark a few years back - so you can see a couple of aspects of the terrain - the 4WD track is maybe 2 or 3 acres, with some muddy holes, flatlands, bankings etc and definitely okay for newbies and more seasoned people - of course, by the end of the weekend, newbies will be tackling all parts of it judging from how it has worked in the past

Sounds like fun. I've added it to my diary. :D _________________

Its a bit far for me with my home commitments at present but if my circumstances changed I would go for a couple of days at the least and will bear it in mind for the future.
Having that many vehicles is okay but the tent is definitely showing off
I could live there with all that garage space. You must need a garage at least to store it in....!!!! _________________ A Little Knowledge is Dangerous and expensive! especially if your me Mending anything!!
That's a definite maybe from me - I've meant to do this for years, when it was at Northampton? Anyway, closer for me than Stratford last September, and cheaper, AND more action! (I'll be watching and learning - my van, as equipped, would only be good for rescue practice on that course!) _________________ Andy C L300 Super Exceed - over 100 smiles per gallon!

I've just put a bit of a landing page up for it with a more 4x4 feel - so let folks know about it :D - www.jap4x4.co.uk a list of some of the activities at the bottom, then click through to the main JAE website via their logo.
Folks need to book up for this independantly - get a 4x4 "yellow diamond" ticket. But we can all camp / hang out in the same area - Caravans okay
Not long now - I am just sorting a date with the showground to go and "modify" the track a tad
I now know I will be working on the Friday, so I'll take the Hippybus to work, loaded and ready to hit the road. I should make it there by 8.00pm, depending on no unforeseen mishaps. Do you know what time last entry is, Mark? _________________ Andy C L300 Super Exceed - over 100 smiles per gallon!
Can't see a POCUK, MDOCUK or even Jap4x4 or YD pitch on the site plan, or do we form part of D21 "Heavy Set"? Any ideas, Mark? _________________ Andy C L300 Super Exceed - over 100 smiles per gallon!

Hi I'd like to go to this as never been offroad before and desperate to have a go. I've tried clicking on all the links above but they just come back with blank screen. How can I book it? How much is it? Can't make the whole weekend 😕 . How many club members are going?

we've got the JCB booked in for Monday 24th August, to fettle the track - there's a couple of us going, as we'll be testing each obstacle for suitability etc. If a couple more want to come along you're welcome - let me know first though !
