It had developed a problem a few weeks back with not changing up through the gears as you increased throttle power. The ATF, TPS, fuses and relays were all okay. It just went at a crawl on hills, then built up speed on the flat.

I've had it booked in with v8 rick to take a look at it and was heading over to his place with it. Unfortunately as I was heading up a steep and narrow cobbled road enroute to him there was a sudden and total loss of forward drive gears, and it started rolling backwards, which seemed to upset a guy in a flashy Merc that was following too closely  Laughing   Even quickly moving the floor lever into 4WD had no effect on stopping the backwards roll. luckily I have good brakes. Strangely the gearbox still worked normally in reverse.  Sad

Fortunately V8 rick was able to bring an 'A' frame and tow it. he now has it in his workshop and reckons a replacement gearbox is required.  :o

dontknow

Rick swapped the box for another.

It had gone inside the box, something to do with the forward selectors.

Reading through the trouble-shooting guide indicate probably Governor or valve failures.  Question

Perhaps the first causes the second? Once your valves go, your clutches don't engage as securely and quickly wear out?

Another random thought, I'll bet there's a lot of busy clutch and brake fitters in West Yorks, - all them steep hills!

lewis, mine had the same running symptoms again today....engine revving nicley, not too bad on the flat, but wouldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding on a hill, would not go over 50 mph at 4000 rpm.....it was hunting at times, then holding gears, but no oomph ! cost me £60 to do 160 miles. Hydraulic fluid is okay, as was transmission oil. its now being a problem.

Mine used to do something similar i earthed out the gearbox sensor which sorted it i still have the occasional problem of holding gears too long which i cure by putting the a/t into hold.

Try this thread here not all Delis have the sensor though other thoughts are the tps might need a fettle the cheap wallet closed stuff is best tried first like you say.

cheers Bazza.....all was well until a few days ago, then, it was okay on the flat, changing up smoothly, albeiet at slightly higher revs, but was useless on hills, and no omph to pull away quickly or overtake. Engine revving to 3500-4000rpm, but I could go no faster than 50 mph. In N or P, it will freely rev to the max, and you can hear the turbo whistling. Its now drinking fuel at an alarming rate, and driving like a slug. Any ideas would be welcome. I've considered the following:-

fuel filter
fuel pump seal
sticking caliper(s)
stuffed auto box

although, I think its something simple. I did let the tank go really low, so is it possible that some crud is effecting the fuel supply?  She is starting fine. Did notice on a run Saturday, that she was chucking out intermittent puffs of black smoke, and felt like she was missing. Any help would be very much apprecited.
