I know, I should have known better!
I thoguht I'd get the aircon cleaned and recharged but, unsurprisingly, in this weather most places are fully booked for weeks.
I stumbled on the Halfords Autocenre service which is a bit pricey but it identifies your car online (from the reg) and you can book it in online too. Then you just drop it off sometime before your allotted time.
When I arrived there this morning (having cleaned out the Deli and arranged to be picked up) I was told they couldn't recharge imports.
Why the hell would the website let me book it when they knew the exact make and model. These details are also not available to the autocentre.
Really annoyed because I know have to chase a refund (you pay in full when you book). _________________

That was my thought but apparently they can't do refunds for online bookings at the centres.
On the plus side it gave me a good excuse to send a very angry email to them _________________

An aircon recharge monkey with a book would be in the same boat with an import. |

Recharged wife's Audi aircon with one of those recharge cans. Simples! Even found manufacturer's on-line video to help. Simply connected the connector to the low side valve (that's the small valve on the thicker of the two pipes coming off the compressor), and squeezed the trigger with the engine running and the aircon set to coldest, fan speed full. Didn't think it was working at first - suspected compressor had died through lack of use, then suddenly it kicked in. Pressure, as indicated by integral meter on can, dropped slightly, so I gave the trigger another 5second squeeze, which put the pressure back to the level indicated by the chart for the current ambient temperature. Checked inside car before switching off and detaching recharge kit. Now have lovely, chilly aircon for 350mile drive to Portsmouth. Flushed with success, went to try it on the L300. Unfortunately, the system is too old, indicated by having different style and size of valve, and would need flushing of old style gas, fit valve adaptor, and fill with correct oil and gas. It hasn't been used in over 3 years, so I really will be lucky if the compressor still works. BTW, recharge kit was £35, with £10 refundable deposit. There is loads left for another recharge. _________________ Andy C L300 Super Exceed - over 100 smiles per gallon! |

The only problem with the recharge kits it that if theres a leak or problem you've paid out and lost the money, with most places charging approx £40 including vacuuming the system and testing it and then only charging if it passes and accepts the gas its a win win situation at the garage. |

I took the Deli to a so-called aircon specialist about 2 years ago, asked if he could could flush, fit adapter valves and recharge with 134a. A week later he returned the van saying it would take 'a long time' to get the valves, and he could end up doing all the work, only to find the compressor seals needed fixing, etc etc. job not done. Does anyone know a good aircon specialist in Cumbria/ North Lancs? Or alternatively, where to get the valve adapters? Also, the cheapest check and recharge I've seen around here is 'From £49.00' May try Carlisle. _________________ Andy C L300 Super Exceed - over 100 smiles per gallon! |
