okay guys. I took the Deli back to Dean two weeks ago. It took a while for him to get it to the garage, yesterday there was a heated conversation via phone and text between me and himself, but to be fair that was as much my fault. Things can get lost in translation via text message. I won't put up all the messages as it's pointless, I will point out that I got angry and swore etc! (haha), Dean however didn't and remained courteous and professional throughout.

The upshot of these conversations was that we arranged for me to come over to his house today for 10am and he then gave me a full refund for the car, along with a hand written and signed letter to confirm the transaction, which I also signed to say I was happy etc.  He apologised and said he should have checked the car properly before letting it out, and admitted he sold it too soon.

All in all, as much as I would have like to have bought a car that worked everything that happened was professional and polite and the end result was satisfactory to me. I'd like to thank everyone who has commented and advised me on this thread it is most appreciated!

good to see a happy ending for a change! what people tend to forget with these types of vehicles is that invariably there's an owners club ( here I think we are extremely lucky as ours is free) and lots of opportunity to spread the word good or bad of anyone who gives a good, bad or indifferent service. The power of the forums is amazing as soon as people get wind that they may be the subject of a post they'll. more often than not, do everything they can to put it right!

BrianB72 -  Wink

I was and am fairly certain that all parties were keeping a close eye on this thread.I knew the minute I saw the title of this thread that I had bought a turkey and felt a little game invovling this threasd and the Deli community was going to be the only possible way I was maybe going to get my cash back.I do however stand by everything Iv posted.

Thanks very much again for all the help chaps! :D

PostPosted: Sun Jun 09, 2013 4:35    Post subject: Dean at Leigh 4x4 Reply with quote

Wow guys, i'm a newbie here and am i glad that i read this series of posts. I recently contacted Dean at Leigh 4x4 about a Deli that he had for sale on eBay. He explained that the one i was interested in had sold but how he has access to other fine examples. After a brief chat on the phone i mentioned that i was really looking for a Deli as a bit of a "toy" and how i would love one with a few extras like a rear ladder, off road tyres, extra spot lights, roof rack and tow bar. Well what do you know!! today (Saturday 8th June)
a new listing appears on eBay for another Deli that he has for sale and reading the small print below, he now offers a build to suit service. "Maybe you want your toy to have a rear ladder, off road tyres, extra spotlights, roof rack and tow bar" He has quoted my request almost word for word and now he apparently offers this service. The funny thing is that he hasn't contacted me in a week.
I really want to buy a Deli because my Dad and I had one when we were working in Russia and it was fantastic. The biggest problem is that he seems to have all the really nice looking ones on eBay and in the Autotrader.

My question to you all here is this...... has anyone here ever bought a good vehicle from this guy? or should I just avoid him like the plague? How can every vehicle he sells be bad? Rolling Eyes

Thanks in advance of your responses.

Many look better in the photos, it really is a case of going to look. He might have one that is a good motor but a good thorough inspection by someone that knows the Delica would show up any faults and either a deal could be made or walk away. Virtually anything can be repaired it's just the time, effort and cost and what you pay initially that makes or breaks the deal.

Just for the record, I am in Tulsa Oklahoma. The reason i put my location as Devon is because that is where i live. I want to use a Delica as a surf bus when i get home, if i can find one that is not being sold by a crook. I won't be using it to commute to and from work because the 747 i currently use gives better fuel mileage, and it isn't very good in the mud. Laughing

Many Thanks

No problem in being over there, but we do watch out for scammers.  :D

It is noted that there are no Delica's in the US and we get a lot of spam, selling Viagra and stuff, from american IP's.  Laughing

I have just read this thread on getting back from my long weekend break.

This is to say that I recently (two weeks ago) bought some used bits (mail order) from Dean for the first time ever ... and his prices were fair, the parts in good order, and they were posted in a timely manner.

This weekend I was visiting the Lakes and in passing I called in ... he sold me some other bits, and fitted them, plus repaired my power steering fluid leak problem.

Them's the facts.

I just bought an alternator from him, I asked and said is it genuine, yes he said, he then added postage on the add from ebay, even though I asked before and he said its included, I then asked if he had a dump valve, he said yes, 60 all in, guess what, he sent me a dodgy alternator and no dump valve, not genuine or anything, his reply was send back, so now I have to send back and pay the postage. I'm going to have him, he needs sorting out, keep away from him, delicasurf he is called on ebay.

no thermostat, head fitted wrong with bolts not torqued leading to burnt through head gasket, knackered fuel pump cam shaft cog redrilled and pin inserted after it had broken the list goes on, I have not driven it this year and had to buy a surf ready for the bad weather. I am mechanically minded but due to illness have put Delica into storage until I can face rebuilding the engine.
If it had cost good money I would have been really upset especially as it suits my disabled partner as it is easy to get into the back with crutches or wheelchair.

It's a shame as some of his Delicas look really nice but its tbe same old story of abc limited folds owing thousands then same person starts up as bcd trading in the same building next day and its all legal.
