Got an odd one going on here !

My laptop has somehow locked itself into a public computer mode !!

I've gone into the sharing centre to alter it, but the customise option to alter the settings to private network, so that I can link it into a network will not function.

My other computer also uses vista and on that the customise option worked perfectly.

Any one got any suggestions as to if something else needs changing first. Apart from getting a different laptop that is  Laughing

Thanks for those links Brett, but unfortunately they are only telling me to do what I am already doing.

IE: Go into the Network and Sharing Centre and click on the 'Customise' button.   :D

The problem, as I mentioned above, is that the 'Customise' button does not do anything.

In effect is not working.  :?

What I need to know is how to get it to function as intended.  Rolling Eyes

That one is fir Win7 only, but gave me an idea, so went in for a play with regedit!

I finally managed to force it into a private network setting, but the customise button is non functional.  It's also odd that although the machines recognises wifi signals it will no longer work with wifi.

I reckon it is a case of backing all my data up and reverting it to the 'shop bought' settings with a reformat.  Sad

1) I had to play in Regedit long time back, had a floppy drive that would start spinning spontaneously with no disk in it  Exclamation
One time it did it with a msg, that led me to the offending bit in the registry.

Stuff in bold. Had a similar problem twice with an HP printer, the PC knew it was there, connected & switched on,
but refused to send print command/s to the printer.
The only way out was to re-format and re-install everything  Evil or Very Mad

Best of luck with it  Smile
