okay, Was asked what size images should be allowed on the forum.
So here's a few choices.
Please be realistic and remember not everyone has a wide screen monitor... Wink

But also consider that most people have a decent size monitor nowadays and most browser software can be configured to auto size pics too for you laptop/phone/tablet users. Just don't ask me how!!  Laughing  Laughing Its in the preferences/settings or whatever I'd imagine.

Any chance of some examples of the different sizes posted on this thread so we can judge the difference?

All the different sized images above are hosted on my photobucket accounts.  Wink

I prefer them in 640 when reading most posts however I have read posts and wished the pictures were a little bigger especially in the DIY section.

Many forums I use automatically resize the picture for you and place a message at the bottom of the picture, stating it has been automatically resized and if you wish to view it in it's original size to click on it. This to me seems the best method, but I appreciate the forum platform may not incorporate this feature.

I've set photobucket to limit my picture sizes for me - it's optional.

Makes forum browsing easier and reduces my photobucket account bandwidth usage.

I voted Max 1024, but 640 seems adequate for most scenarios.

6000 is only for showing off Smile

This also i voted 1024 max.. having 1024 max doen't mean everyones going to make every picture that size. it proves more useful in tech photos. many a time theres been photos here that I wished were just a bit bigger to see properly ;)

I also have to agree with SM...I would say most people now have wide screen monitors...and if you have not...go treat yourself to one or a nice new shiney craptop/SHiPAD ;)
nice 19" HD DVi/VGA monitors on ebay from as little as £55 inc P&P ;)

I voted unlimited. but 1024 would be okay.

The way I see it, this forum exists to help/promote Delica's. Links to pics don't do that and life's too short to go about resizing stuff all the time.

Pictures telling a 1000 words is no lie and I've seen on other (non Delica) boards what limiting pictures does to participation.

I'm all for some sensible moderation though, take the 6000 pixel pic above.
Posted in "look at this amazing landscape/360 shot of my Deli" thread = no problem, keep it!
Posted in "Wheel types that fit Deli's" its a bit daft.. remove!

So I would suggest 1024 is the standard, but not enforced unless detrimental.

Your never going to keep all users happy though, you've got phones, pads, netbooks, laptops, monitors and multi monitor users to keep happy (even before you get into OS/browser discussions!)

(and for the record the 1600 wide one fills about 2/3 of my screen)

Good idea to show the pics sizes Lewis. I like your panoramic. Nice moorland, nice moorland, nice moor...- ooh! A wild Delica! Nice moorland, nice moorland etc..  Laughing

The pics I put up were for a technical how-to post and I agree- for that 640 is too small, and links are useless as it totally ruins the flow of the tutorial, especially if you want to print it off.

My photobucket account sizes up to 1024 as that works best on my own forum, which we all agreed on as a voluntary guide, but rules are flexible when needed, and nobody has a problem with it.

Another BMW forum I was on had a similar rule that I only found out after doing a long extensive how-to post, only to lose all the pics which ruined it and seemed like I wasted my time. So I just gave up and never bothered doing any more.

Hey up - - -

What happened to the first page of this topic, it is so w i d e, gave totally false impressions of picture sizes.

When I zoomed out to fit whole page on screen (21") the text is just a tiny smudge  Sad

Voted for 800 wide pics.

Well for me on the iPad the 6000 wide makes it just about unusable as the screen tries to fit it all in and the text then shrinks to nothing meaning sections have to be zoomed in on just to be able to see the letters. When I hit 'post reply' to write this, the dialogue is in a tiny box in the top left corner so again I have to zoom to see what i'm typing.
Unfortunately it means I can't judge the other sizes on the iPad as the whole thread including the other photos shrink away to nothing to cater for the 6000 wide photo.
On the iPhone it looks like 1024 is the biggest manageable size, 267 is way too small on either device.

Lets just say unlimited isn't really an option... Wink Even 'just' a 6000 pixel picture makes the 1st page silly and I am using a 27" screen running 2560 x 1440.  Shocked

Agreed. Would Lewis mind removing the 6000 wide one so we can see what the others look like please?

Most forums can control image sizes automatically. Why not here? I find the lack of editing, and these image size restrictions really irritating. I was asked to resize some of my pictures on a how-to thread I put together, which broke the post, then couldn't re-edit to fix it because I wasn't allowed to - meh. Ridiculous quite frankly. Sometimes I wonder why I bother.

These are some of the reasons I have not frequented this board so much, never understood the logic of the edit being switched off to stop people maliciously changing old posts.
(I will commend this site on retaining full browser width though, really annoys me the need for 'modern' sites to stick to the middle of the screen!)

Thanks Lewis. Now the 1600 fits on iPad but makes the text too small. Same on the iPhone. On my Sony Vaio 15" XP laptop (IE8) it's too big and causes the side-scroll bar to appear. 1024 is a little too big for the screen on the laptop too. The desktop running Windows 7 and IE8 and a 24" widescreen monitor copes with them all, but 1024 and up are too tall to be completely seen without scrolling. So for all devices have to say 800.
