Hi.
I am wondering about the double piston caliper's upgrade. I've been looking for some new calipers, and I've found some for the L400/pajero genII, but they are for a brake disk thickness of 24cm. The brake disk is 22cm thick for my L300. Does it make any difference?? Or should I buy a new brake disk that are 24cm?? Or new 22cm??
I have also looked at calipers at "Milner off road jappanes 4x4 parts".
"BRAKE CALIPER FRONT L/H *RECON EXCHANGE*"
-"*RECON EXCHANGE*" -what does that mean?
And I am also wondering about the brake carrier; do i need a new one, or does the L300 original fit?
Thanks. |

Seeing as I was the one who worked out the L400/Pajero 2.8 calipers fitted and was the first to do this mod, I guess I should help with some answers. :D
The different in brake thickness is nothing to worry about. The braking capacity is much improved over the standard calipers running on the original L300 discs. COnsidering the amount of movement the pistons have, 2mm is nothing.
As for fitment, you do need both calipers and carriers. The caliper bodies are bigger than the stock L300 ones so you'll need the matching carriers. These bolt directly to the existing hubs, but you'll need to cut away some of the brak backing plate to allow them to fit. It really is a simple thing to do, and bleeding the brakes takes longer than the caliper swap.
I'll try and find my thread about it.... _________________ '93 L300 Mystery Machine (Now in the hands of a new owner)

Oh...and recon/exchange means that the calpier is a refurbished/restored item and you'll need to send in your old ones in return/exchange. You usually pay a 'deposit' as well as the purchase price which you get back once you've sent your calipers in to them.
I don't think they'll let you exchange L300 calipers for L400 ones. _________________ '93 L300 Mystery Machine (Now in the hands of a new owner)

Hi.
Thank you Mystery Machine for the answer. I will order my calipers now.
You guy's are really inspiring me to fix even more on my van.
Maybe you know if the braking power will inkrease by putting 24cm disks on, instead of the 22cm disks?
I will write about my upgrades, and post photos on the "modification" category later when I get my stuff. |

I wouldn't think so unless you put bigger pads in,which would need a bigger caliper.
The braking effect is related to the area that the pads cover,so bigger discs wouldn't mean more braking power. _________________ Ian.

It is a mod I was going to do but I am selling my L300 so not bothering
I have already bought a pair of calipers the carriers from a scrap Shogun and a set of pads so if you are interested PM me see if we can sort a price out.Not all Shogun ones fit but Mark kindly sent me a list of chassis numbers that fit. _________________ Star Wagon super exceed auto(Now sadly gone),Galaxy Ghia 130,Hyundai i800 |

Hi Dave C.
Yeah, if the calipers are in good condition, don't need overhauling and if they are with carriers I am interested.
If you can find out what the shipping is going to cost, that would be great! (I live in Norway). |

This is a mod I am certainly going to do,with that in mind was talking to my local garage who reckon new ones are only £65 each, and will supply them at that price, which supprised me I thought they would have been considerabley more,of course I would still have to buy the pads, but still a lot less than I thought. :o |

That is true but I have been thinking if the discs are bigger then you could fabricate the caliper brackets to be a tad longer and if the caliper is "further out" around the circumference of the disc then braking power would be improved? _________________ L300 Delica Star Wagon |

I'm so sorry, I wrote cm, when I meant mm!
So what I was actually wondering about was the thickness of the brake disk.
But, I thank you all for answering my thread!
So will the calipers from a pajero work better with the 24mm thick brake disk? And would it fit on the car?
Dave C, or anybody: Could you pm me the list over chassis numbers that fit? That would be very helpful.
And by the way, Dave C, about the shipping on the calipers; I have a home adress in Sweden that is more convenient to send to. |
